My Writer's Backstory / Vlog + Tara Tyler's Windy Hollow Release Day!

Hi, everyone!

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. I have something different for you. I've been making and posting videos on my YouTube channel, and I just got the brilliant idea to post some of those videos directly on my blog as posts. *face palm* I will mix a few older fun or informative vlogs with new ones and try to put up vlog posts 2-3 times a month here on Write with Fey.

I've been trying to find some way to make blogging (for me) more fun. Ever since my worst case of depression a couple of years ago, blogging hasn't been the same for me. Then BAM! I got this idea (moments ago from typing this), and I think this may motivate me. I do really enjoy creating my YouTube videos, so this just may be the answer. Or, at least, a step.

ENJOY!

TARA TYLER WINDY HOLLOW RELEASE DAY!!!!

WINDY HOLLOW
Beast World MG Fantasy Series, book #3
by Tara Tyler
Available NOW!

In BROKEN BRANCH FALLS, Gabe and his friends go on a quest to save their school, blowing up all the rules, and discover their origins.

Then they go to CRADLE ROCK and meet some real live humans, scaring them into attack mode. The Beasts realize they have to spread the truth ASAP.

Now, school's out, and Gabe is ready for a break from all the drama...

Gabe and his friends fly over the Great Sea for the wedding of the century: a dragon prince and a beautiful harpy. But Gabe can't relax on this vacation. Besides competing in rigorous wedding events, he overhears the nearby human village WINDY HOLLOW is in danger from an evil human scientist and a vengeful were-ogre experimenting on beasts. Gabe and his friends risk crossing the mountains to help, despite several warnings.

Maybe he's going too far this time, but he's in too deep to quit. It's do or die, hopefully not die!

  1. Congrats to Tara!

You chose a good pen name. The magical still fits though because you look a little like an elf (in a very good way!) and elves are magical.

    1. LOL! I actually had someone at an event once say that I looked like an elf from Lord of the Rings. :D They are gorgeous, so I'll take that as a compliment. :D

  2. Neat idea, Chrys! I don't think I'd be very good with making videos of myself - I like to hide in my shell too much! - but never say never. :)

    Congrats to Tara!

  4. Great idea to post on YouTube but I'm not sure I would be good at it. Awesome how you got into writing. I didn't get into it until I read Harry Potter when my daughter was younger.

    1. Harry Potter sure sparked so many people's imaginations and created many writers. Harry Potter influenced me as well.

    1. Thank you! Since I was little, I've heard that I['m photogenic, but being shy, hearing that would make me wanna hide. lol I'm getting better at not hiding. And actually enjoy making these videos. :)

  8. You must love pumpkins! I see that in the background. You have an excellent voice and you are very pretty. In fact you inspire me to create a fairy card with the green and purple that is on your chair. I love it that you got your inspiration from an old rusty, dirty screw. OK...that does sound right but you know what I mean:) It's interesting how life can redefine what one writes. We had creative writing in grade school which is how I started and always got great marks

Aw. I am so happy to inspire you to make a fairy card.

HAHAHA!!!! I know what you mean.

  10. I've put a few videos on my blog from time to time. The last one was where I read a book I had written in 2nd grade. It's really fun to do and a nice way to shake up blog content.

  11. Nice idea to post the videos on the blog. I have always written in a journal since a kid about 9, and then notebooks sometimes would have a story idea. I wrote the idea but never went back and wrote the story. Then I had some story dreams I wrote down that I still have that had lots of detail for story ideas I might write in the future.

I took a couple of snail mail writing courses from Children Institute of Writing and then Writers Digest before we had access to internet like now. That was the early 90's.
I started reading and buying every writing craft book I could find and reading it too.

It was when I started writing story in Star Wars RPG (role playing game), the beginning of 2000, that I really started writing, writing, and then in 2011 I decided I wanted to try to write books. I bought Holly Lisle's course How To Think Sideways: Career Survival School for Writers. I started and set up my blog as a writing platform too. In the beginning of 2014 I joined IWSG and have not missed a post yet.

2019 I have my first publication in Grumpy Old Gods anthology plus doing lots more that will be published because I partnered with another writer to create themed anthologies and offer opportunity to other writers who like short stories. I am also working on something of my own rather with a group of writers which I hope to publish soon, but no date set yet, and there you have it.

    Great post.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story with me! You might've joined IWSG around the time I did. I'd have to go back and look at my posts. But I haven't missed a post yet, either. :)

  15. My first attempts at writing, that I remember, was when I was 4 or 5 and my father was away training for a new job, and as mom wrote him a letter, I decided to do the same, but the only words I knew were gas stations: Esso, Shell, Sinclair, Texaco, etc. Good idea about your videos!

  17. I've come up with a new trekkie word Fey, Trekamaniacs! What you think? Its a fun way of high fiving trekker pals, :)

  18. Congratulations to Tara!

I love your videos! How courageous to put yourself out there. You have a very quiet but powerful presence, if that makes sense? Also, I totally get why you use a pen name. I do it for the same reason. I have people out there that I don't want to know what I write about. I'm still the same exact person on here that I am in the "real" world. Just a different name. Sorry the pen name didn't quite work out for you but I'm glad you kept it.

I'm doing a podcast now to help keep things fresh and fun on my end too. I'll be announcing it on my blog next week. Thank for sharing "you" with us. This was a lot of fun. :)

    1. Thank you! And it does make sense...probably because I am naturally shy and introverted.

Yes. It bothers me when people start to say that writers who use pen names are trying to hide something. Or they are fake or scammers. It's just not truw.

      Enjoy your podcast!

    1. Absolutely! I'm starting to do some that are like tutorials. I'm using the PowerPoint presentations I make for writer's meetings.

  20. Whatever it takes to bring back the magic! Or spark...

I used to love to blog and Facebook, etc. But then someone told me it was a good platform and suddenly my social media was work and hence, no fun. I've tried to stop worrying so much about making it part of "work" and start enjoying it again.
