When a tip reveals the killer's location, they travel to
California, but then an earthquake of catastrophic proportions separates them.

Q1: What does music mean to you?
Music is my escape. Almost like reading can be. But for me,
music sinks deeper than the words of books. It inspires me, moves me, motivates
me. I listen to music whenever I am creating something artistically, whether it’s
while writing or drawing a fashion design. I use music, and the many genres, to
influence my mood for whatever I have to create. The first song to really sweep
me away and influence my writing was this:
Q2: What is your first music-related memory?
Sitting in the backseat of my mom’s car, driving somewhere
in our relatively empty city (it had just started growing at the time), probably
getting groceries or going to the library, and listening to the radio. Whenever
I hear Celine Dion’s song The Power of Love, this brief memory pops up. It’s so simple and
yet it makes me smile.
Q3: What was the first album you’ve purchased yourself?
When I was younger, I didn’t purchase albums because I didn’t
have the money. The few I got when I was younger was purchased by my parents.
The first album I bought and remember being so excited about came much later and was A
Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds to Mars. This song is the one that sold me on this
band:
Q4: What was the latest music you purchased? (No online
streaming or free downloads, I’m talking about cash here!)
1000 Forms of Fear by Sia. I listened to all of the songs
on that album on Spotify, which was free for me to do. I even saved each song
on my account, but I loved the album so much that I bought it. I usually don’t
buy an album these days unless the music really speaks to me. Here’s a live version of the song
that started it:
Q5: Which song did you listen to last? (No cheating, come
out with the dirty pleasures!)
I had to check Spotify for this answer and it said: How Could an Angel Break My Heart by Charice
My Nominations:
The new cover rocks! Now that one is awesome - great details.
ReplyDeleteWithin Temptation - very cool.
Thanks! I've been seeing this one go around and thought it would be cool to answer.
Thank you, Alex!
DeleteWithin Temptation is one of my all-time favorite bands. :)
I wasn't sure if you had been nominated yet or not, so I'm glad I did nominate you!
Cool cover!
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to music as much or in the same way as I used to. I like quiet or white noise while I'm writing. One of these days I'm going to get back to it...but where/how to start?! :)
Thank you, Madeline!
DeleteI hope you do reacquaint yourself with music. :)
The cover is fantastic. I did the Thunderclap thing. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Thank you!
DeleteThe cover is very awesome indeed. Music can hit deeper many a time than mere words. Added thunderclap too with my 72k twitter account.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Thank you! I appreciate your help!
DeleteNice cover, Chrys!
ReplyDeleteAh music. It moves me, inspires me, and fills up my playlist. :) I think my earliest music memory is singing "You are my sunshine" for all my family members.
Thanks!
DeleteNow that I think of it (and since you mentioned it) singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" was one of my earliest memories. :)
I do like the cover! Very nicely done! Fun to read your answers about the music. I remember my mom would always have the radio on at the house while she was doing chores, etc., that's probably my earliest music memory :)
ReplyDeletebetty
Thank you! The credit goes to my publisher's cover artist Kim Mendoza.
DeleteExcellent cover! Cheers to you on the Music & Words Reward:-) Earliest music memory for me is of Sunday evenings when my two grandmas took turns playing piano for sing-a-longs. They were extremely old songs, but I looked forward to Sundays.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThat's a sweet memory to have, Diedre!
That is one gorgeous cover!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :D
DeleteI like the cover, but the book blurb sounds even more interesting. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that, Ken! :D
DeleteLove the cover! And the blurb, excellent!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Great musical questions, but better answers!
Thank you!!! :D
DeleteHi Chrys - love the cover and the story line - a good one to read. I'm hopeless with music .. so I'll leave you to the knowledgeable ones! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilary! Aw. And there's no such thing as being hopeless with music. Some of us just listen to it more. :)
DeleteYour cover is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know half the bands you mentioned.
I hope you listened/watched the videos then. ;) Thank you!
DeleteGreat cover! Gives me an immediate feel of setting and genre. I'm not familiar with the artists you mentioned. I mostly listen to playlists on Spotify these days since the radio stations only play the same five songs every half hour.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D Spotify is my favorite source for music.
DeleteCool book cover. I like the song selections you presented today as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
DeleteCongratulations! I found your song choices mesmerizing! Wow, Chrys. Let me invite you to join "battle of the Bands."
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad you liked my song choices. I have thought of joining Battle of the Bands. I think I will soon when I have less to blog about.
DeleteNice cover and looking forward to helping you promote it in April
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sage!
DeleteThanks so much for the nomination, Chrys. And great cover! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! And thank you! :)
DeleteI love the cover of Seismic Crimes and the plot sounds irresistible! I will def be buying the ebook, Chrys!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the award!! I love music so much. I've started a novel called A Love Lyrical and of course song lyrics are a part of it. It's shelved but I hope to get back to it.
Your song influences are great and the stories behind them. I was listening to the last one and it stopped when I clicked comments so I'll be back to play them all. I love how music inspires your stories, Chrys. I know you've shared that with us in the past. Great post!
Thanks! It'll also be available in print soon. ;)
DeleteYou're welcome! I remembered a few musical posts on your blog that I enjoyed, so I had to award this to you. :)
I hate it when I'm listening to a video on a blog and I click comments and it stops. Grr.
You ready to hear the album I first purchased? It was DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. The one with Parents Just Don't Understand on it (don't remember the album name). Other than that, I only purchased a couple singles on cassette. Ack! I do like Sia. I have Chandelier on my iPod, which I'm currently, FINALLY adding new music to.
ReplyDeleteLOL. That's a memorable first album. ;)
DeleteLove, love, love the cover.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award:)
Thank you!!! :)
DeleteCongrats on another book!! The plot sucked me right in. We all want thay sort of connection...which makes it all that much more fun to read about.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We sure do. That's why I can't help but write about their relationship. :)

ReplyDeleteHeather
Thank you!!! Jared is the best. ;)
DeleteAwesome cover, Chrys!

DeleteThe cover is great because it shows the iconic bridge and you know there is a romance because of the close up kiss. Love your music pieces. The first music piece is really quite wonderful. I like the last one also. I love how music speaks to e h person.

Thank you, Sherry! No pressure. You still have plenty of time.
DeleteYou're welcome! I hadn't known you received it before, but you deserve two. :)
Love the cover. Super awesome stuff happening. Way to go, Chrys! Thanks for the nomination. *breaks out some cheesy music* I'm going to have a ball with this after getting off break...and I should go sign up for your Thunderclap. Toodles!
