I am happy to introduce
Jonel Boyko to Write with Fey for a reader interview. She is a talented blogger
and an avid reader/reviewer. Let’s give her a warm welcome!
1. Tell us about Confessions of a Bibliophile (Pure Jonel).
Pure Jonel, a book blog with 1000+ followers, was launched in December
of 2012. With monthly hits of 10,000+ and daily posts including reviews, guest
posts, author interviews, giveaways and more. I don’t differentiate or
discriminate between traditionally published and independently published works.
All writing is taken and reviewed based upon its own merits. As the sole
reviewer on the blog I endeavor to give my unbiased opinion of each work I
read.
2. Who is your favorite author and why?
Just one? Oh
dear. If I were to pick just one, I’d
have to say Susan Mallery. The fantastic
town of Fool’s Gold is an amazingly real town that I won’t ever forget. These sweet romances are books that I could
read & reread again and again.
3. I don't think I've read anything by Susan Mallery. *hangs head* What book can you read over and over again?
The Complete Sherlock Holmes. Hands down, my favorite story.
4. What kinds of book covers attract you?
I fully admit that I shop based on book covers. If it catches my eye, I’ll buy it based on
little else. I tend to steer away from
‘cartooney’ covers, looking for something much more realistic. Cowboys also catch my eyes.
Jonel's puppy and reading nook. |
5. I'm a sucker for a good cover too. Who is your favorite fictional character?
Doc in Jacqueline Rhoades’ Alpha’s Daughter. He was the perfect mix of alpha male &
sweet & sensitive. He’s also the
type of guy that you just can’t get out of your head. Oh, and did I mention that he’s a shifter?
6. Gotta love a shifter! Which author do you have a love/hate
relationship with?
Veronica Roth.
Loved the first two novels in the Divergent series, but the third
book???? Who ends a series like
that? I had to keep reading, but it was
like a train wreck for me.
7. I've been interested in reading this series. I'll have to see about that last book. Growing up, what was your favorite
children’s book?
The Wind in the Willows.
It was a fantastic escape from reality for me. I absolutely loved how the animals were so
real.
8. What would you like to know about the
authors you enjoy reading the most?
Other than release dates?
Lol. I always enjoy finding out
where authors get their ideas from and how they began writing.
Hyper Round:
1. Ebooks
or Print books? Print, preferably paperback
2. Movie
Adaptations: Yay or Nay? Nay (except Harry Potter)
3. Favorite
reading spot? Armchair in my reading nook
4. Favorite
reading snack? Sweet chili kettle chips
BIO:
I am an avid reader turned blogger. I believe
that an explanation for everything in life can be found in the Big Bang Theory.
If for no other reason, because laughter fixes everything.
I have a cat & a dog who both love to curl up with me while reading. Both area also high energy animals who love to play, but are also well suited to the life of a bibliophile. When not reading I also enjoy spending time at the barn with my horse.
As someone who thoroughly enjoyed post-secondary education, I have both a BSc (double major in Biology and Classics) and a BA (honours in history with an emphasis medieval religious history).

Thank you for putting
down a book (a good book, no doubt) long enough to answer my questions, Jonel.
You can now get back to reading. ;)
Please leave a
comment for Jonel.
You know sometimes I regret buying a book because it has a good cover. :P Not everything turns out the way the cover promises.
ReplyDeleteI love that John Keats quote. :)
Sometimes the cover can trick us. Even after reading the blurb and the first page, a book can still be disappointing and not what we thought.
DeleteI agree about Veronica Roth! and your horse is adorable. :) I should check out Susan Mallery because I never heard of her either.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Beth!
DeleteI stopped liking the Divergent series after the first one! I hated the second one the most - it was agony getting through it - and I only finished the 3rd one for continuity. I wouldn't recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI really dig that reading corner! I wish I had one, but unfortunately I just have to read where I can, typically with a large dog on me or a child talking in my ear :)
Really? Wow. I've been interested in reading the series because I love the Divergent movie.
DeleteThe first book is fine and I would've liked it more if it just ended there. I liked the first movie, too even though deaths and events are kinda different.
DeleteThe second one has some flops of personalities that I don't understand/like and understandable but over the top depression that I couldn't stand.
The 3rd one goes back and forth between Tris and Four's POV, which usually doesn't bother me if done correctly. I had to keep checking back to see who's chapter it was supposed to be because the voices were near exact the same.
And the back story to explain why the city is how it is just felt so flimsy and eh. :/
But these are just my complaints!
That's interesting that you had to keep checking to see whose chapter it was. My latest book that my editor (Seismic Crimes) is in Beth's perspective for one chapter and Donovan's for the next. I sure hope they don't sound the same. Neither of my betas said it did so I hope I'm okay with that.
DeleteI still might have to read her books to see just what you mean.
There have been series where it was in one character's POV for all of the books and then the last one is in two character's POV. And I didn't like that because it felt so different as if it wasn't part of the same series.
Mmmmm Sweet Chili Kettle Chips.
ReplyDeleteI love your reading nook.
I wish I had her reading nook! Minus the dog though. My kitties wouldn't like that. haha
DeleteThat's cool she has such a successful book blog. Chili kettle chips - that sounds tasty.
ReplyDeleteHer blog is very successful. it's how I found her. Then I started following her on Goodreads. :)
DeleteI wish I had a reading area like that - at the moment, my sofa faces a car engine. I completely agree with the Divergent series - I adored the first book, but I have no idea what happened in the third. It was like it belonged to a different series. But you should definitely still check it out :). I'm a sucker for good book covers too, though I'm often disappointed by the actual book. Jonel's blog sounds awesome, I'm going to check it out now :)
ReplyDeleteYour sofa faces a car engine?
DeleteIt's interesting to see that everyone is agreeing on the last book in that series. I feel more inclined to read them and see what you guys are all talking about.
That's awesome!
I don't pay much attention to covers. For me it's all about the blurb.
ReplyDeleteThat's good. You're not easily distracted then. :)
DeleteWonderfu post, and interveiw. Now if every book had a picture of Danny Boy on the cover I'd buy them all.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your week-end.
Yvonne.
That's funny, Yvonne.
DeleteEnjoy your weekend!
Book bloggers and reviewers are awesome! Always happy to support them. Thanks for letting us know about Jonel.
ReplyDeleteI like her mask collection. I have one as well. :)
Book bloggers and reviewers ARE awesome! You're welcome, J.H. :)
DeleteCovers and blurbs for me.
ReplyDeleteSunni

Same here. :)
DeleteGoes to show a cover sells. High energy cat and dog can be fun, except maybe when you want to get some reading done
ReplyDeleteCovers do sell! My kitties are pains in the butts, but they usually let me read when I want to.
DeleteLove the puppy reading nook.
ReplyDeleteMe too. :)
DeleteThat was interesting what she thought about the 3rd book in the Divergent series. Didn't read the books but saw the 1st and 2nd movies. Now curious why she referred to it as a train wreck.
ReplyDeletebetty
I'm curious too because I've been wanting to read the books since I love the movies.
DeleteThat's a really eclectic mix of degrees. The Medieval religious history sounds particularly fascinating. I was never really into the Middle Ages until maybe 12 years ago or so, and now I really love Medieval history and literature.
ReplyDeleteMedieval religious history would be fascinating! Ever since I was a kid I've been interested in the Middle Ages. :)
DeleteI don't think we can help being influenced by book covers. I wouldn't buy just because of the cover, but a good or interesting cover is what will prompt me to read the blurb and I might well chose the book based on that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so either. We have eyes after all and it's the first thing we see. Covers always get me to read the blurbs.
DeleteI'm first attracted to a book cover, although looks are deceiving. I need to look up Susan Mallery.
ReplyDeleteLooks can definitely bee deceiving when it comes to book covers. A book could have a bland cover and be amazing. At the same time, one could have a gorgeous cover and be horrible. Or not what you would expect.
DeleteWonderful interview, ladies. So nice to meet you, Jonel. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Beverly!
DeleteThanks for the tip on Susan Mallory, sounds like a must-read! Do you ever decline to review a book? I'll be stopping by your site soon, Jonel :-) Thanks for sharing, Chrys! Great interview, ladies!
ReplyDeleteI imagine she would decline a book if it's not in a genre she likes. Hopefully she'll see this and comment with a reply. :)
DeleteWell, who doesn't like cowboys? I tend to like certain cartoony covers. It's funny what draws folks to a book cover.
ReplyDeleteI know I love cowboys! ;)
DeleteLots of fun Chrys and Jonel.
DeleteAnyone that ranks Sherlock Holmes at the top gets my thumbs up!
:D
DeleteSuch a fun interview!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anne!
DeleteYour reading nook looks so cozy! You have a cat and a dog to cuddle with while reading? I'm jealous. I haven't read that Divergent series. I'm with ya on the cowboys on book covers. :)
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love a cowboy on a book cover?
DeleteShe is definitely a prolific reader and reviewer!
ReplyDeleteLoved getting to know her better. She has a horse, no wonder she likes cowboys!
Great interview!
She is a prolific reader/reviewer. That's why I asked her to do this interview! :)
DeleteI like her reading nook!
ReplyDeleteYou're not the only one. ;)
