Blog Tour: Today I am over at Julie Flanders’ blog with a character
interview for the detective from Ghost of Death. Check it out: Interview with Detective Avrianna Heavenborn
For anyone who is insecure I am sharing one of my favorite
movie quotes from A League of Their Own:
“It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone
would do it. The hard is what makes it great.” –Jimmy Dougan (Tom Hanks)
Remember that whenever you struggle with writing,
editing, publishing, marketing, or whenever you consider quitting, that not
everyone is cut out to be a writer, but I believe you ARE! It may be hard, but it’s worth it!

2015 A to Z Reflection:
My theme for this year's A to Z was...DISASTERS!
I had a blast writing these posts and reading the comments because I learned so
much. Many people shared their own personal stories
and revealed what disasters scared them, which is why at the end of my “Z” post I asked my visitors to vote
on the disaster they thought was the worst.
Ready for the answer?
*drum roll*
WAR
Second Place: Nuclear Meltdown
Third Place: *Tie* Extinction and Plague
Fourth Place: Tsunami
**************************************************************************************
There were a ton of blogs and themes I enjoyed this year, but I
picked ten of my favorites to highlight here.
A to Z Blogs of Note:
2. A Tarkabarka Holgy at Mopdog posted 26 ways to die in Medieval
Hungary.
3. Melissa Sugar at Fiction Tool Box had an ongoing murder mystery.
4. Sharon Marie Himsl's theme was women inventors.
3. Melissa Sugar at Fiction Tool Box had an ongoing murder mystery.
4. Sharon Marie Himsl's theme was women inventors.
6. Elizabeth Mueller shared My Little Pony fan
art.
8. AJ Lauer had an ongoing story that continued
with the help of her commenters.
9. Natasha Duncan-Drake’s theme was deities and
demons in fiction.
10. Patricia Lynne wrote flash fiction with odd words for each letter.
**There were so many I enjoyed visiting everyday and could mention a ton more, but I decided to keep it at ten.

A to Z Tips:
1. Put a growing list with links at the end of each of your posts (like the one I included above) so interested readers can visit your older posts.
2. When you leave a comment at a blog of someone who isn’t familiar with you, add an embedded link to your blog. How? It’s easy. Here’s mine:
<a href="http://www.writewithfey.blogspot.com">Write with Fey</a>
All you have to do is replace my link and blog title with yours. Then copy and paste into the comment box.
3. Check your spam settings. A blog I was assigned to visit as co-co-host kept telling me my comments were going to the blogger’s spam. This was aggravating!
4. Share your new post on Google +. I went to countless Google + pages and couldn’t find that day's post.
5. Better yet, revert to a Blogger profile if you’re using Google +, so people who click on your avatar will be sent to your Blogger profile with your blog link in easy access. For more info on how to do this go HERE.

During the Challenge, Betty at A Bench With A View mentioned to me how every time she went to a new blog, she’d see that I had already been there and asked me if I slept at all. Haha! I did sleep, but I’ll tell you how I did it:
1. I’d check my new post for the day and returned visits to everyone who commented before I dragged my butt out of bed.
2. Then I’d go to my previous day’s post and return visits to the people who commented while I was a sleep. (I always checked out their newest post.)
3. After that, I’d do my co-co-host duty and visit my five assigned blogs.
4. Finally, I’d visit the blogs of those I follow. After the first few days of the Challenge, I quickly found the people who returned visits/comments and only visited those blogs for the rest of the Challenge.
TIP: Always visit the people who visit you and leave a comment! Blogging is suppose to be interactive.
5. All of this would take the whole morning. I’d check back in around 2:00pm or 3:00pm. If I got a comment from someone I hadn’t already visited, I hopped on over to their blog. I did this again around 7:00pm before I shut off the computer for the night.
6. Every day I’d repeat this process.

I found out Witch of Death is being published later than Ghost of Death, so I'm looking for June spots to help promote this story.
QUESTIONS: Have you ever seen A League of Their Own? Are you surprised over the worst voted disasters? (Do you think another disaster should be in the top 5?) What did you like/dislike about the A to Z Challenge?
I really appreciate you sharing that quote. Simple yet so true. I need to hear that often.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it, SA! :)
DeleteI too wondered if you slept at all. I appreciated you stopping by during the challenge and have enjoyed your A-Z theme this year. I'll be back next year. But you probably already know I'll still be checking in to your blog. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this. You are part of the reason the month of April has been so successful. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeletePS - Thank you for the information on changing the Google+ setting back to Blogger. I hated it going to google+, that site is not very user friendly and I like people to be directed to my blog(s).
DeleteI liked your posts because they were funny and frank. We need more of that.
DeleteUnfortunately, for me, I don't think I'll be doing the Challenge next year. I'm think about just co-hosting but haven't decided yet. I might just take a break all-together from A to Z next year. Every April seems to be hectic for me without it.
I really appreciate your comment and kind words about my theme, though.
Love that quote! I did enjoy the challenge. It does take time to respond to comments and visit other blogs, but it's completely worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is worth it! :)
DeleteDoesn't surprise me that war won.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching from the sidelines this year. It was more relaxing.
Doesn't surprise me either.
DeleteI think I might do that next year.
I can't remember if I saw A League of Their Own, think I did. That quote certainly applies to A to Z. I am not surprised war won either. Been a lot of talk about World War III lately. Not talk I like to hear. I wasn't on the sidelines but I wasn't being a minion either this year and I still found it hard work.
ReplyDeleteThe A to Z is always a lot of hard work for everyone involved. And you're right...that quote does work for the Challenge. :)
Delete"There's no crying in baseball!" But there's lots of tears shed by writers, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteSince I live here in the Midwest, tornadoes are a big fear here in Missouri. We've had some devastating ones the last few years.
That line is also one of the best quotes from the movie. And yes, gallons I've tears. I've shed them all when it comes to writing, editing, publishing, and marketing.
DeleteTornadoes are very scary.
I'm not surprised that war won.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had been as organized as you with visiting other blogs! I thought I would find some kind of groove with it but it just never happened.
I learned from last year, which was my first time doing the Challenge.
DeleteLove that quote! And the movie, too. :)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your A-Z system worked really well for you. Good of you to share it!
So do I. Whenever it's on TV, I'll turn it on. :)
DeleteThanks, Madeline! I love to help others.
Very true, the harder something is the more it is worth doing
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteAfter a week, I started focusing just on returning comments, and that made it a little bit easier.
ReplyDeleteGoogle+ tripped me up several times. It was often tough to find the right blog in all the links listed.
Well, you probably get a ton of comments. I would've done the same thing.
DeleteNot surprised about the top disaster at all. And the sad thing is, it's self-created and within our collective power to stop.
ReplyDeleteI loved this year's Challenge! Thanks so much for the shout-out--I've always loved visiting your blog. I feel bad that I didn't do a top ten list now, as so many people are.
Thanks for sharing your tips of how you kept on top of things. You were definitely one of the most reliable! Congrats on finishing!
I agree.
DeleteThank you, J.H.! And you're welcome. Last year was my first time doing A to Z and I didn't do a reflection post or a list of my favorite blogs, so I knew I had to do both this time around.
What a nice inspirational quote! Loved it.
ReplyDeleteWill check out that interview, Chrys.
Thank you, Sittie! :D
DeleteI should read the quote every morning - so true! Going to head over to the interview now :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Teresa!
DeleteNot surprised war won. Just thinking about WW1 and WW2 makes me die a tittle. I can't believe people to actually do that to other people.
ReplyDeleteI know. It's heartbreaking.
DeleteI enjoy that movie very much and it hits on a moment in history people would not have known about without this film. I am not surprised War won-it makes the most sense. I hope I don't have that spammer thing on mine but I know my blogging could be better. I am trying to understand what you wrote about the link etc...but you lost me. I am so not computer tech or anything like that
ReplyDeleteCommenting on your blog was easy, Birgit. No worries with that. :)
DeleteIt's easy. Just cope the whole code I shared, erase my blog link and put yours in it's place, then take out Write with Fey and put your blog title there. Then copy the whole code once you make the changes and paste it at the bottom of your comments and hit "publish." :D
OK You see I am so daft that I have to ask where is your code that you shared and where is your Write with Fey?? See how slow I am? I don't know where even to start
DeleteHaha! That's okay. I was going to give you the code with your blog link and blog name but then realized if I pasted it in here it would be embedded and wouldn't be the code you could copy.
DeleteChrys, I've started using an embedded link for my signatures. Wordpress, Discus, and others blogs will send people to a site that is not my blog. So the embedded link is there to direct them to my blog.
ReplyDeleteStephen Tremp

Stephen Tremp
That's good! :)
DeleteI loved the disaster theme. You did a great job with it. I wouldn't thought there were so many disasters to fill the alphabet.
ReplyDeleteI also commented and followed back carefully, but still wish I could have visited more blogs. At least the link list is there for future reference.
Thank you so much, Tamara! I'm glad that so many like it. :)
DeleteYou were definitely everywhere this challenge. And I had SO much fun reading your blog. It was hands down one of my favorite of the challenge. War totally got my vote as the scariest!!!! (And thanks SO much for the shout out!)
ReplyDeleteI really tried. Thank you so much, S.L.! And you're very welcome. :D
DeleteHi, Chrys,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on completely a successful A-Z and CONGRATS on you newest novel. All the best!
Some great bloggers you have pointed out and your tips are spot on!
Thank you, Michael! It's more of a short story than a novel, but thank you! :)
DeleteYou're right, Writing is totally worth it, no matter how hard it might be at times. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Ken!
DeleteLove the quote. And hard doesn't mean defeat. Just more of a challenge. Considering how many do the A-Z thingy, challenge seems to be a good thing. Off to visit your guest spot.
ReplyDeleteA challenge is a great thing! :D
DeleteLoved the movie! And the quote certainly does apply; kind of puts a bounce in the early morning step :-) Thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteYou have quite the rhythm for keeping up a busy schedule - I'm impressed :-)
You're welcome, Deidre! I like to put a bounce in people's step. ;)
DeleteWow. I'm impressed by your schedule. I just wouldn't be able to keep up. But you never know, maybe I could. Thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoos, I didn't sign up since I have you scheduled on my blog for June 8th, but I wasn't sure if this was a different sign-up. You see, I struggle with organization. Shoot me an email if this is for something else. Of course I'd love to help.
Nope, this is the same sign up. I have you down and even have the post ready. I'll be sending it to you once I get all the links for Witch of Death. :)
DeleteI love that League of Their Own quote. So true. Only a few persevere with the really hard things.
ReplyDeleteYou did an awesome job with A to Z and I notice you building traffic like crazy. You are definitely doing something right.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hart! I really try my hardest with my blog.
DeleteYou're a rock star, Chrys. I so admire how much you're able to get done! And thank you for the handy list of links - I may not comment on all of them (TIME is an issue!) but I will go peruse them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz! :D And I think you'll like their blogs.
DeleteAs always Miss Organizatin comes through. Congratulations! How wonderful that you've two stories coming out! Hope I can help!
ReplyDeleteI've felt that urge to quit - walk away - but then there's that little voice in the background that keeps saying What if? I like that voice!!!
Miss Organization? Haha! I guess I do like to be organized...a lot. ;)
DeleteThat voice is great, it keeps us going.
I think you are a super human! Someone out of a science fiction story who doesn't need any sleep and can write anything!! First, Congrats on both your new books published and getting so much hype. I'll be purchasing these both as e-books. I have Hurricane Crimes up next. I'm off to check out your blog guest post for Ghost! You are obviously highly organized Chrys, and that's how you pulled off your A-Z challenge and still managed to visit other blogs. :)
ReplyDeleteLMAO! I wish I was superhuman. ;P
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words. You always make me feel so much more superhuman than I actually am. :)
Great tips that I'll probably use for next year's A to Z challenge. Sounds like you rocked it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I hope they help you. :)
DeleteI voted WAR. Not surprised that it was tops.
ReplyDeleteThat quote is true.
It reminds me of another quote: anything in life worth having doesn't come easy!
Yup, and your vote counted. :)
DeleteThat's another great quote.
Great quote. It’s too bad only writers understand how hard writing truly is.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how you’re able to do all you do, Chrys. I didn’t participate in in the A to Z this year and still only managed to visit a handful of blogs.
Totally fascinated by the disaster vote. The top two are manmade, meaning they are technically avoidable and in the hands of human beings rather than mercurial Mother Nature.
VR Barkowski
I know. I even blogged about how hard writing is and comment that on my personal (non-Chrys) FB profile, but only writers read that stuff or even care.
DeleteI'm thrilled the vote fascinated you. :)
Hi Chrys, I like that quote from League of Your Own. Will have to remember that whenever I feel that writing is too hard. And whenever I’m tired keep writing (which I am right now). As for the A-Z Disasters theme, I still say “Z” for Zombie Apocalypse should be number uno.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I guess zombie apocalypse was so low with votes because not many people believe it can really happen.
DeleteI certainly enjoyed your theme!! Now I'm off to see your blog tour interview!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, Thank you, Dixie! :D
DeleteGreat A-Z tips. I had many bloggers fail to return my visit to their blog. By the second week, I didn't mind this so much as I was falling behind, but it is a common courtesy.
ReplyDeleteI also found several people who commented but didn't seem to have any blog, link, website so that I could return the visit and comment. And 2 people whose blogs were set to private!
You're right, it is common courtesy. I appreciate that you visited my blog during the Challenge. :)
DeleteGreat tips. I often click on an avatar and am sent to their G+ page and they don't have a link to their blog on their page.
ReplyDeleteThat's happened to me countless times.
DeleteI loved your quote, and it certainly made me feel better today. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Suzanne! :)
DeleteThese types of post might be something I should consider, but I haven't yet. Did you read "Life by Chocolate's" A-Z posts of Martha Stewart--pretty raunchy but funny!
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of her posts about Martha Stewart but I missed her A-Z. Her posts didn't show up in my blog feed, so I didn't even know she was doing the Challenge. Darn it!
DeleteThanks for the shout out, Chrys! I like your system about visiting blogs! I'll have to remember that for next year! Also great advice about keeping a running tab of previous posts you had done so people could go back and check out old ones. I'll have to remember that one for next year too!
ReplyDeletebetty
You're welcome, Betty. :) I thought it was smart when I did the list last year and I wished others did it this year.
DeleteI usually got all my A to Z visiting done in the afternoon after work. There were a few people over in England who'd have their posts up in the evening for me, so I'd go visit them then.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shoutout. =)
I saved all of my visiting for the morning hours, but yeah...I had to scroll down to get to the bloggers from England. I didn't mind though. It helped me to make sure I didn't miss anyone. :) You're welcome!
DeleteNuclear meltdown is definitely a bad one. I can totally see why it took first place. I think Betty may be right in questioning when you sleep :)
ReplyDeleteActually nuclear meltdown took second place.
DeleteWell, I'm secretly a vampire. ;P
You completely rocked the A-Z last month girl! I'm still trying to unwind from it all. Hoping to get my Reflections post up by tomorrow. Thanks for the visit earlier. Hugs! Eva, IWSG co-host
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eva! I'll be sure to check out your reflection post. :)
DeleteYou were really dedicated to return comments as soon as you woke up! Congrats on a great theme and thanks for the tips. I gave you a shout on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI was! :D Thank you, Nick!
DeleteChrys, I am in awe of you and everyone who participated in the A to Z Challenge. What an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Diane. You humble me. :)
DeleteThanks for the quote, Chrys. I'm always needing inspiration. You are so busy! And congrats on your 2 stories. I signed up.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for signing up, Gwen!!!! :D
DeleteYou put a lot of work and effort into the Challenge! You're way more organized than I'll ever be. I'm already looking ahead to next year, and have most of the topics for my theme selected. My theme for my names blog is currently undecided, however, and probably will be for awhile.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that you're looking ahead to next years says you've very organized. I'm not even sure if I'll do it next year.
DeleteThanks for the sage advice... as newbie it's so valuable... I'm making my way through all of the reflections now and really loving it... so many more great things to go back and read following up on the blogs others enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for visiting The Rock.
Wendy at Wendy of The Rock
And thank you for visiting my blog in return, Wendy! :)
DeleteMy commenting procedure was kind of similar to yours. Although, I only had time to check blogs once a day. And that time varied.
ReplyDeleteWith your job, I can see how that would make A to Z tricky.
DeleteThanks for the great advice. It couldn't have come at a better time.
ReplyDeleteHere's my link if you'd like to drop by :-)
Anna from Elements of Writing
You're welcome, Anna!
DeleteI'll admit that Google+ is awkward for following blogs on.
ReplyDeleteIt is!
DeleteI agree that the writing, querying, submitting, sometimes gets very hard, but in the end its all worth it as our passion drives us forward.
ReplyDelete*Nodding my head while reading your comment.* :)
DeleteI think I picked plague but war was my second choice. Love League of their own. I coached my son's baseball team when he was 9 years old and I remember gathering the team together after we lost in the playoffs and telling them,
ReplyDelete"There is no crying in baseball."
Susan Says
You were right with both being among the worst, Susan.
DeleteAw! That's cute!
Great tips! Thanks for finding my A to Z interesting, you made it fun and I appreciate your comments. :D
ReplyDelete♥.•*¨Elizabeth¨*•.♥
I made it fun? *Grins* I think you made it fun. :D
DeleteThat was an unusal theme but it paid dividends, It was so interesting to read and I enjoyed each and everyone.. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Thank you, Yvonne!
DeleteChrys,
ReplyDeleteGood A to Z tips. I always comment on all comments left on my blog and then go to that person's blog, read their post, and leave a comment with my blog link. ALWAYS leave your blog link so people can visit you if they want to.
It sounds like your schedule was much like mine. I would always find at least five new blogs to visit daily along with the ones I was following. Many times I visited twenty if I had the time. Of course, that being said, there were still a lot I never got to.
I do know one thing, to write and schedule your posts ahead of time. There's no way to keep up with everything if you don't do that.
Also you have to make it easy for visitors to comment by disabling the CAPTCHA. I wrote an instructional post on doing this back in Jan or Feb of 2012.
Good job Chrys and congrats on finishing the challenge.
Sunni
http://sunni-survivinglife.blogspot.com/
That's good, Sunni!
DeleteThank you!
Your dedication to the challenge is very admirable, Chrys. Well done on completing it! I've enjoyed learning much about disasters from your posts, and nope, am not surprised that War was voted the worst. I haven't watched A League of Their Own but I've read that quote somewhere. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Claudine!
DeleteYou should see A League of Their Own. It's a very good movie. :)
Great tips! And I love that quote from A League of Their Own. A long time ago, I discovered that if I commented on a blog that wasn't on Blogger, I should add my URL just in case. Not sure if the HTML version works on all of them, but I'm going to have to give that a try! Sometimes it automatically converts it to HTML. Every time I post a new blog, I add it to my Google Plus page, but I'm noticing many people don't do that (A to Z or otherwise). They also don't turn off the feature where every comment they post on someone else's blog posts on Google Plus, as well! I spend half my life scrolling through people's Google Plus pages, trying to find someone's post.
ReplyDeleteA few times the HTML code didn't work, but my link was still there even if it wasn't embedded.
DeleteSometimes commenting with Wordpress is tricky because I have a wordpress website now and it wants me to use that to sign in, but then I know they'll be sent to my website instead of my blog.
That is a cool quote. Doesn't make the writing any easier though, lol.
ReplyDeleteI saw your post at Julie's. And I hope this month is slower for you :)
I know, but its a good perspective to have to get us through the hard parts.
DeleteThank you, Dolorah!
It is amazing how much you get done. You always have useful tips too. I learned to add my url after having comments on my blog from people I could not find to return the favor. I realized some might have the same problem with me, so now I also add my signature with url.
ReplyDeleteJuneta @ Writer's Gambit
That's smart, Juneta! :)
DeleteHi, Chrys! Great suggestions included in this! I work away from home each day, so I spent one hour each morning, replying to comments on my blog, checking what was posted at AtoZ and then making a few visits to the list or to my regular blogs if there was time. In the evening, I'd reply to other comments, then visit my assigned 5 minion blogs, then either start visiting blogs I followed or blogs on the list until I was too pooped to pop.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I have seen A League of Their Own! Good show!
~ We made it!!! ~
Stopping in from Life & Faith in Caneyhead.
See? I'm not the only one who had a routine. *High Five!*
DeleteGeez, what a smart and yet tiring task. haha I loved your posts. I missed the voting somehow, though! I probably would've chosen war, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra!
DeleteI love League of Their Own, it's such a classic! And what a great quote! It sounds like you were on a roll with the A to Z Challenge this year!
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was on a roll. ;)
DeleteExcellent suggestions and assessments for A 2 Z. I agreed with each one.
ReplyDeleteLoved League of Their Own. I should watch it again.
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by, Susan.
DeleteWow, your routine was pretty intense. I think I started out a bit like that, but fell behind somewhere along the way. I enjoyed your theme. And now I appreciate your tips.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rhonda!
DeleteGreat tips, as always! And always so encouraging and inspiring to visit your blog. I like the thought that not everyone is cut out to be a writer, but if you are writing, then you are.
ReplyDeleteThat thought kept me going when I thought about giving up. :)
DeleteLove that quote! It's very inspiring. I loved your A to Z posts, I'm really glad I found your blog through the challenge :). Congrats on finishing, and thank you for all the hard work you put in :)!
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank, thank you! :D
DeletePopping over here from Tanya Miranda's Reflection post. Now I need to go back and read your A-Z posts. I love your theme!
ReplyDeleteKatie @TheCyborgMom
Thank you for stopping by, Katie! :)
DeleteI've seen your name on Alex, Arlee, and Elizabeth Seckman's posts this week and in comments during the challenge, so I thought I'd stop by in my Post A to Z Road Trip. You sound like a very busy woman!
ReplyDeleteI like your theme, Disasters make for an interesting topic and I am following you now and hope to read through your A to Z posts :)
Thank you for stopping by, Elizabeth. Yes, I am doing a blog tour now so I've been on Alex's and Elizabeth's blogs.
DeleteThank you for following me. I'll go to your blog and follow you right back. :)
Hello there.
ReplyDeleteOh my...you were certainly busy during the challenge...wish I had your stamina! (lol) Excellent reflections post and love all the tips and tricks.
Just stopping by from the road trip to say thanks for visiting my blog.
Entrepreneurial Goddess
Thank you for visiting me back, Goddess. ;) After the Challenge, I had several days of not wanting to do anything...my stamina was gone. lol
DeleteJust now getting around to visiting the blogs in the challenge. April was a busy month for me. Congrats on completing the A to Z Challenge! Looking forward to next year! See you on the Road Trip!
ReplyDeleteA note regarding your comment about google+ - aparently I was oversharing, and google+ put me in a time out for a few weeks. I am unable to post or comment there. Very Frustrating!
Mary

Over sharing? I had no idea that Google+ had a limit on how much you could share and would put you on time out. That is bizarre!
Delete
