My theme for my 2015 A to Z Challenge came from my
Disaster Crimes series. Disasters are a theme in each story, so it got me
thinking about all the disasters that occur from natural disasters to manmade
disasters.
Today’s
disaster is...
ZOMBIE
APOCALYPSE
Zombie
apocalypse is the end of the world when the undead (mindless
creatures that are starving for human flesh) take over the world. A virus
outbreak is the root cause for the zombie apocalypse that rapidly spreads from
coast to coast and county to country. This virus is passed when a zombie bites
a human. Soon after the bite, the human dies and transforms into a zombie. This
person no longer has any sense, just the hunger for flesh, and it doesn’t
matter where they get it from, whether it’s from loved ones, babies, or the
elderly. All are fair game.
ZOMBIE CHRYS! |
Survivors of the apocalypse seek safety while killing any
zombies they come across, which can be done by inflicting damage to the spinal
cord or brain, such as a bullet to the forehead or snapped a zombie’s neck. These
survivors have to scrounge for food in hostile environments with depleting
resources.
The chances of surviving forever in these conditions are
slim, as it’s impossible to kill every zombie with their numbers greatly
outweighing that of humankind, and with no place completely zombie-free.
QUESTIONS: Are
you a zombie fan? Do you believe the zombie apocalypse will happen? What
are your favorite zombie movies/TV shows/books? I‘m a huge fan of the Resident Evil
movies.
Now that you've read all (or most) of my disaster posts, it's time to vote for the worst disaster of all!
I found it interesting reading the comments and finding out which of these disasters you feared. Many of you felt earthquakes were the most devastating natural disaster, and that war was the worst manmade disaster. Several revealed their fears over gas explosions, plagues, and tsunamis as well as their anger over oil spills that hurt the environment. Of course, this all depends on your personal thoughts and experiences.
So I'm curious...
What disaster do you think is the worst?

Good post Chrys but scary.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the completion of the challenge.
Yvonne.
Thank you, Yvonne! :)
DeleteDon't take this the wrong way, but zombie Chrys is scary. In the mornings, I feel like zombies have invaded the London Tube. People without their coffee makes it interesting.
ReplyDeleteHaha! She's meant to be. ;P
DeleteThanks for adding the giveaway and for donating a book.
DeleteYou're welcome, TBM! I like to help my fellow bloggers. :)
DeleteMy fave zombie movie is WWZ with Brad Pitt. It was surprisingly suspenseful and well done. I was convinced it would be a dumb zombie moive, but it turned out to be much better than expected! Thanks for posting all these crazy disasters:)
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen WWZ yet.
DeleteYou're welcome! :)
You look good as a zombie!
ReplyDeleteI think what man can do trumps any disaster.
Thanks, Alex! :D
DeleteThey all sound bad, but I'll go with extinction. That would suck.
ReplyDeleteThat would suck!
DeleteAs a zombie lover, I LOVE this post. To answer your questions - 1. Are you a zombie fan? YES! 2. Do you believe the zombie apocalypse will happen? MAYBE 3. What are your favorite zombie movie/TV shows/books? THE WALKING DEAD 4. ~~~ As far as the disasters, I voted for zombie apocalypse. That's disaster that could be permanent.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment and your vote, Jolie! :)
DeleteHave to admit that I'm not a zombie fan ;-) although recently read Vanessa Knipe's Pill Wars in which a 'miracle' anti-depressant has a zombie-like effect - recommended. Fear tsunamis mostly although an asteroid would cause everything short of war... but maybe that as well is very likely.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation, Roland. And thanks for voting!
DeleteZombie you... is good but disturbing... I used to make Zombie Makeovers in the good ol days.. :)
ReplyDelete"Z" we made it... thank you!

Come Visit: You know you want to know if me or Hollywood... is Nuts?
I want to be made into a zombie! :D
DeleteSend me a photo... I will "z" dazzle you... that is what I used to call it.
DeleteHi Chrys .. I voted plague - not sure how it takes my vote though .. presumably when I hit enter here .. they've been great posts - fun too .. but am glad the zombies haven't come rushing in ...
ReplyDeleteCheers Hilary
Thanks for voting, Hilary!
DeleteEW. ZOMBIES.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing the challenge, Chrys! It's been so awesome getting to know you a bit and I look forward to continuing to read your blog.
Thanks, Anne! I've enjoyed getting to know you too. :D
DeleteNot much of a zombie fan. They creep me out. I don't like to be creeped out. Have enjoyed your A-Z disaster month! Looking forward to reading your continual blog posts.
ReplyDeletePS - I stole your idea for a poll and updated my final rant. :)
No problem with stealing the poll idea. I actually had a real poll up but it wasn't letting people vote for their answer, so I took it down. I'm hopping back over to check out your poll. :)
DeleteYes, the votes counted. Thanks for checking it out. I think blogger provides a pretty good poll add-on.
DeleteI'll have to remember that, but right now I'm too pooped to do anything else.
DeleteDon't blame you. It's been a long month.
DeleteIt sure has been!
DeleteI can't stand zombies. *shudders* If it was real, I'd vote for a zombie apocalypse, but I think I'll go with war instead.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing the Challenge!
Thank you, Sarah! And thanks for voting! :)
DeleteIn general I'm not very interested in zombies, but I really enjoyed the movie Braindead (by Peter Jackson) that I happened to watch some years ago. Except from that, I very little zombie experience >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
I've never seen Braindead. I'll have to look for it. :)
DeleteAnd regarding disasters, the worst must be extinction. Then we're all dead and the human race is history if/when it happens again
DeleteYou're right about that, CA. Thanks for voting!
DeleteA quasar explosion would be a very bad day for planet Earth. For those who did not make it below ground in time and find a way to survive there, it would be a mass extinction.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about that.
DeleteOh, and thanks for helping with the A to Z team this year! We couldn't do it without people like you!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I was glad to help and do my part. :)
DeleteAnother zombie post - I need to go through and count them :) Zombies are clearly awesome! I do not think the dead are ever coming back, but if they do, I'm pretty sure I'm toast. I love the Resident Evil movies too, but my fav is Warm Bodies - so much fun and so sweet.
ReplyDeleteI think the worst disaster would have to be an extinction even - the planet would be uninhabitable for a while and it would likely be global.

And I meant to add - thank you for a wonderful month and all your great posts.
DeleteZombies are a popular topic for today. I ran across many too.
DeleteI wanted to see Warm Bodies when it first came out but never did. Ah! I need to look for that!
Thanks for voting, Natasha, and thank for your sweet comment. :)
I don't like the look of Zombie Chrys, no, no. . .As for the worst disaster, I'd vote for Nuclear Meltdown, or Nuclear Bomb actually being activated, as it takes a lo-oo-ong time to become radiation free. But just FYI, Morgan Freeman narrates on the show Through the Wormhole . . .and one of their shows was about the possibility of a Zombie disaster. If a virus was developed to do this, it just might be possible. It was creepy as it was on a science show looking at the scientific probability. I lean toward science a lot.
ReplyDeleteReally? I missed that episode. That would've been an interesting one to watch.
DeleteThanks for voting
My favorite kind of apocalypse (well, fictitious. Real, not so much). Love a good zombie story!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making it to the end of the A to Z Challenge!

Fictional zombie apocalypses are fun.
DeleteI am a zombie fan but when I scrolled down and saw your (clever) photo of zombie self, I jumped. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing.
Haha! Sorry for scaring you. :P
DeleteThat zombie picture is awesome and funny because your hair stayed perfect!
ReplyDeleteI vote for asteroid as the worst disaster. If it's big enough to destroy all life on the planet, it trumps all other disasters.
If you have to be a zombie, you minus well should have nice hair. ;)
DeleteThanks for voting, Tamara!
Judgment Day will be the worst. Ughghgh. No, I don't believe in Zombies but they sure are fun to watch on TV. It was great visiting on the A-Z. I will be back for visits :)
ReplyDeleteThey are fun to watch. Thanks for visiting, Katy!
DeleteZombie Chrys is classic LOL. I never liked zombie stories until I became obsessed with The Walking Dead.
ReplyDeleteI can't even pick which disaster I'm most afraid of. I hope I can make it through life without experiencing any of them. Great theme, Chrys!
This is the second appearance of Zombie Chrys. She may return. ;)
DeleteZombie you would make me run. Zombies are great, but don't think it will ever really happen, hopefully. Worst is the plague, my ocd doesn't want that
ReplyDeleteYou and the cat would run. ;P
DeleteThanks for voting, Pat!
PERFECT ENDING!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing the A to Z blogging challenge!

DeleteI have to confess that I hate zombies - I'm actually terrified that one day this might happen! I have nightmares about it sometimes, and in my dream I always get surrounded by zombies, with nowhere to run to! Literally my worst nightmare lol. I really don't know what to vote for - I found a lot of your posts pretty scary! Congrats on finishing the challenge :)!
ReplyDeleteRachel
Rachel's Ramblings - full of writing, tea and cake
All disasters are scary in their own way. Thank you, Rachel!
DeleteAck! I don't care for Zombies or gore. Never knew a virus supposedly started the whole thing, was it by chance a man-made virus?
ReplyDeleteMost of these viruses that cause zombies are manmade.
DeleteThat explains it! Actually two disasters in one ;-) Hey, I voted too. Did I vote in the wrong place? My vote was Nuclear Leak (man-made mistakes tend to last painfully longer than Mother's Nature's wrath).
DeleteYou might have voted when I had the poll up and it wasn't actually letting anyone submit answers. I got your voted down now. :)
DeleteI am not into zombies at all. It is overkill:)-That word seems appropriate for this eh? I don't think it will ever happen and I would like to see the future once where it is wonderful and not mutants post war-dark and dreary-ughh Give me Star Trek hope any day. I think war is the worst. It is destructive, killing and all for power. This is man made and it is the worst
ReplyDeleteOverkill is a perfect word for this. ;)
DeleteThanks for voting, Birgit!
Great zombie picture! I think a plague should be our greatest fear. Some mutated virus that we won't be able to stop. Hopefully it won't turn the dead into zombies.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And thanks for voting, Susan!
DeleteI think the worst disaster is Tsunami! This last one is pretty gruesome but less chance of it happening ;) love your pic as a zombie! Well done on the A to Z challenge Chrys!
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, Lisa! And for visiting my blog throughout the Challenge. :)
Deletezombies TERRIFY me, the concept, the idea everything! I never read a zombie story or saw a zombie movie, and remember a couple of years ago people were eating each others' faces because of bath salts or something? It was in the news, flipped me out!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Yes, I forgot about that...bath salts did make a man eat someones face. And that happened in Florida too.
DeleteAmazing make up job. Gave me a bit of a fright.
ReplyDeleteExtinction would be the worst because you are gone but since that is usually not an instantaneous event I would pick nuclear meltdown. I grew up near one that everyone always talked about how there was no way to evacuate and we would all die so I'm pretty sure that has colored my view on that being a certain scary death. I love Ray Bradbury's story "There Will Come Soft Rains" about the aftermath of a nuclear event.
Thank you for voting, Kat! I'll have to look for Ray Bradbury's book.
DeleteGreat Zombie picture! I'm not a Zombie fan, but sometimes I think they're already here, in a manner of speaking, when I go out to eat and see everyone staring at their phones instead of their dinner partners. Congratulations on making it all the way to Z!!!
ReplyDeleteScribbles From Jenn - Visiting from the A to Z Challenge
Thank you, Jenn! :D
DeleteBig zombie fan. Even write about them. Can;t say they ever will happen, but I think I'm prepared so long as they are the slow lumbering zombies. If they are running zombies, I'm dead meat. Your zombie pic is the stuff of nightmares.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on surviving the challenge! :)
Slow zombies are easier to kill. ;)
DeleteThank you, David!
This was a really fun theme! Congratulations on crossing the finish line! :)
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would say volcano or tornadoes, because I have a childhood fear of both (and, ironically, we have neither in Hungary). :) But that's just based on my perception.
@TarkabarkaHolgy from
Multicolored Diary - Epics from A to Z
MopDog - 26 Ways to Die in Medieval Hungary
Thank you! For you, you'll but down a vote for both of those. ;)
DeleteSorry I've been a little behind in visiting you, Chrys. You've been one of my faves and one of my biggest cheerleaders this month. I gave you a special shout out in my X post. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite disaster is going to be a toughie. I'm a huge zombie fan (think Walking Dead, World War Z), but nuclear meltdowns seem pretty painful and bizarre. Gosh, then there's war...
BTW, congratulations on finishing the Challenge, Chrys! We did it! I heart you, girl. Thanks for keeping me going. Eva
That's okay! And thank you for the shout-out. I missed your X post! I'll have to look for it. :)
DeleteThank you, Eva! I heart you too. :D
Zombies are creepy and I'm not fond of them.
ReplyDeleteI think wildfire and floods are the worst disasters.
Congratulations on completing the A to Z.
Thank you and thanks for your vote, Beverly!
DeleteI love that picture of zombie Chrys. That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! :D
DeleteMy little brother loves zombies, and has even written a movie script about zombies. Some friends of his with their own little production operation filmed it.
ReplyDeleteAs a lifelong pyrophobic, my vote goes to fire all the way.
That's awesome! I wish him the best of luck with it. :)
DeleteThank you for voting, Carrie-Anne!
I have already decided if the zombie apocalypse happens, I'm joining the horde. It's the less stressful option. All I will care about is brains. LOL
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making it to Z!

DeleteOh my, picking ONE disaster only? And a Zombie Apocalypse. Well, I think they covered a lot of that in the WWZ movie, but the book was SO much better and not at all like the movie. I'd have to say there are a few disasters that chill me to the bone, but I think B and P are ones that push my buttons. Thanks so much for visiting my blog so much! I love that you are so close to where I live and could relate! Glad you made it through the A to Z! I've enjoyed your blog and the theme so much, ha ha! See you during reflections...? And for sure on IWSG Wednesday! Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know there was a book for WWZ.
DeleteI will definitely see you during reflections and IWSG Day. :) Thanks for visiting my blog throughout the challenge and for voting!
Oh yes! What a perfect ending to the disaster challenge. Zombie apocalypse...a horrifying thought.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you think it's perfect, Megan. I thought so too. :)
DeleteThat's a scary photo! While I'm sick of zombie apocalypses now, I did like 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead.
ReplyDeleteI never saw all of 28 Days Later just the beginning and turned it off. Oops.
DeleteAargh! Run away from Zombie Chrys! Fun note to end quite a heavy theme on. Congrats on a very educational Challenge.
ReplyDeleteHaha!
DeleteThank you, Nick! I'm glad you think my theme was educational. :)
This is the second time today that I've run into zombies, and I think that's awesome. The Walking Dead is okay, but I think Zombieland is my favorite zombie feature ever. As for the worst disaster...I'm going with wars.
ReplyDeleteZombies are a popular choice for today.
DeleteThanks for voting, JE! :)
I love Zombieland and the book World War Z, but NOT the movie (ugh!). I think solar flares are the scariest because it is a likely disaster and it could take out just the power grid and that alone would create an apocalypse. I've loved your theme this month and looked forward to your posts. Good work! Happy Z!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the book or see the movie for World War Z. I'll have to do both.
DeleteThanks for voting! And thank you for visiting my blog throughout the month. :)
I read somewhere that a zombie apocalypse will never happen. Oh, I found the link: http://www.cracked.com/article_18683_7-scientific-reasons-zombie-outbreak-would-fail-quickly.html
ReplyDeleteScariest disaster? Hmmm. They're all pretty bad.
That's good! Thanks for the link. :)
DeleteMy scariest disaster would be a sinkhole! Like you could go missing and your next door neighbour wouldn't realize it for days. No chance for search and rescue to save you.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe the world would in a zombiee apocalypse though.
Congrats on completing the challenge
That would be a scary scenario.
DeleteThank you, Keren!
Hmmm...well I don't think there will be a zombie apocalypse. As far as the disasters go, they're all pretty scary situations. I imagine all the ones that are spur of the moment are a tad worse than the ones you can prepare for. The scariest thing will probably be WWIII.
ReplyDeleteCongrats for finishing the challenge and thanks for visiting me.
Sunni
http://sunni-survivinglife.blogspot.com/
I think you're right about the ones that happen saddening be more devastating than the ones you can prepare for.
DeleteI'll put your vote down for war, Sunni. Thank you and you're so very welcome. :)
I would be afraid to run into Zombie Chrys :) Congrats on making it through the challenge! You had a great theme; enjoyed visiting and learning some new things or sharing experiences about stuff I'd been through. A job well done!
ReplyDeletebetty
;P
DeleteThank you, Betty!
You make a truly disturbing zombie, Chris. And by "disturbing" I mean terrifying.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge zombie fan, but I love The Walking Dead--it scares me silly regularly. And I love when we have a zombie walk in Vancouver and a whole whack of people slap on their zombie gear and roam the city.
Great way to end the challenge, Chris. I've loved reading your posts and I look forward to reading more from you now that April is in the rear view mirror.
Haha!
DeleteI've always wanted to go to a zombie walk.
Thank you! :D
Every disaster listed is frightening, I admit, because they each cause pain and devastation. :( But Judgement Day, as in the *real* one, where God categorizes you according to your works while on earth, that day will be glorious.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I love your zombie pic. I also love how well thought out your posts are, especially with your links of previous posts. Great job!
I also don't believe in the zombie apocalypse. It's laughable. ;)

I agree that all disasters are bad. I'll put your vote down for Judgment Day even though mine was about Terminator. :P
DeleteThank you!!! :D
My sister always says she'd drive north into wilderness if there was a zombie apocalypse but I worry because we don't know anything about hunting and fishing!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you could learn. Your life would depend on it.
DeleteZombie apocalypse movies and books scare the heck out of me, although I never worry about it become a reality. I do remember the Miami "zombie attack" from a few years ago, which was quite scary, although the news mentioned mental illness and drugs.
ReplyDeleteI was just reminded of that yesterday in an earlier comment.
DeleteWhile I am not a fan of zombies, love your zombie pic, so cool :) Seriously though, the worst are the man made disasters, imho, so one vote each for oil spills and war/violence. I have enjoyed your theme and your posts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the support and the visits, glad to be together among the survivors :)
Thank you!
DeleteThank you for voting!
And you're so very welcoming. I enjoyed your posts and the poetry you shared. :)
Yay, congrats on making it to Z! I'm definitely not a zombie fan, although I did like Warm Bodies! Funny show. And as for the most feared disaster...I think war is pretty scary! We just watched Valkyrie last night and yeep. Good movie, scary war.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cortney! And thank for voting! :)
DeleteZombie Chrys is kind of scary . This is the tenth post I've read about zombies . Zombies clearly ruled the letter Z day. I am a fan of some zombie books and films.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for making it to the end of the challenge. Thanks for all the times you visited my blog during the challenge

Zombies were popular for Z.
DeleteThank you, Melissa! :D And you're welcome!
I also have to comment on your Zombie photo, it's AWESOME! My vote is "L" for Limnic Eruption - silent and highly deadly. CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for visiting me!
ReplyDeleteYou can find me here:
ClarabelleRant
Thanks! :D And I've got your vote down.
DeleteYou make a great Zombie. Congrats on getting through. My least favorite disaster is earthquakes - as I live with them and there is no warning.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And thanks for voting!
DeleteYIKES!!! You make a SCARY zombie! But in a GOOD way....
ReplyDeleteBecause I cannot swim, any disaster to do with water terrifies me. However, I'm not sure that flood/ice storm/hailstorm qualifies as the worst...
So I vote Killings and War as the worst.
Congrats on reaching the A to Z finishing line, Chrys!
I’m just sorry that I didn’t get to read all your posts.
This was my 5th challenge, but this time round I didn’t get to visit as many blogs as I’d have liked to…
See you next year for another month of “alphabet madness”!
I feel the same way about water disasters and for the same reason, Michelle. Thank you for voting!
DeleteThank you, Michelle! and I'm sorry for not making it to your blog as often either. Things really got hectic in April.
Congratulations, Chrys! You finished another challenge in a most engaging way! It got to where I was reading your posts before the morning news :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diedre! I enjoyed your Challenge too. :)
DeleteFor some unknown reason, when I think of zombies, I think of the Michael Jackson video, "Thriller." Vincent Price narrates, and it's scary - much like the photo of you in zombie-mode. Ooh.
ReplyDeleteI can understand why you'd think of "Thriller." That song and video are epic! :)
DeleteIt's hard to choose from all those disasters, but I guess I'll go with nuclear meltdown. It just takes the area a long, long time to recover from it. I don't even know how long. Congrats on finishing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, Cindy! :)
DeleteI'm not normally a zombie person, but I like Mira Grant's novel Deadline, which provides a great twist on the usual theme with a focus on news reporting in a post-Zombie apocalypse world. I also loved the movie Warm Bodies.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to sound weird, but I need to go with never-ending drought, because of the despair and suffering everyone would experience. In a lot of the other ones, you'd get wiped out pretty quickly and never see the bad results.
Great A to Z series! Congrats on reaching the finish line. :)
I haven't read Mira's book. Thanks for the recommendation and thank you for voting! :)
DeleteAwesome picture!
ReplyDeleteI am not big into zombies, but I have seen a lot of movies with them in them. :)
I think nuclear meltdown might be the scariest disaster for me- but it is hard to say as there are so many scary ones on the list!
~Jess
Thank you! And thanks for voting!
DeleteI'm not a big zombie fan, but looking at that photoshopped view of you, it is probably the worse disaster!
ReplyDeleteHaha! So are you voting for a zombie apocalypse? ;P
DeleteSorry that I got here so late, Chrys. Your zombie photo is to die for! It's hard to choose only one disaster, but the nuclear meltdown sounds especially terrifying. Congrats on making it to the finish line! You chose an explosive theme, and I really appreciate all your visits! Thanks Chrys!
ReplyDeleteJulie
That's okay, Julie! Thank you for voting and for visiting my blog. :)
DeleteNo point in thinking about it, a zombie apocalypse is the worst disaster ever. Hands down. There's no need for discussion. Just think about it, the dead still walking around, making them undead. And they crave human flesh too (I'm shuddering right now).
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Your comment is the best, Lidy! And I think you're right about that. Thanks for voting!
DeleteI can't remember what it was I read recently that made me say, "Ah, so this is how the Zombie Apocalypse starts," but it was an article on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like it was an interesting article.
Delete
