Z is for Zombie Apocalypse


My theme for my 2015 A to Z Challenge came from my Disaster Crimes series. Disasters are a theme in each story, so it got me thinking about all the disasters that occur from natural disasters to manmade disasters.

Today’s disaster is...
ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

Zombie apocalypse is the end of the world when the undead (mindless creatures that are starving for human flesh) take over the world. A virus outbreak is the root cause for the zombie apocalypse that rapidly spreads from coast to coast and county to country. This virus is passed when a zombie bites a human. Soon after the bite, the human dies and transforms into a zombie. This person no longer has any sense, just the hunger for flesh, and it doesn’t matter where they get it from, whether it’s from loved ones, babies, or the elderly. All are fair game.
ZOMBIE CHRYS!
Survivors of the apocalypse seek safety while killing any zombies they come across, which can be done by inflicting damage to the spinal cord or brain, such as a bullet to the forehead or snapped a zombie’s neck. These survivors have to scrounge for food in hostile environments with depleting resources.

The chances of surviving forever in these conditions are slim, as it’s impossible to kill every zombie with their numbers greatly outweighing that of humankind, and with no place completely zombie-free.

 Now that you've read all (or most) of my disaster posts, it's time to vote for the worst disaster of all! 

 I found it interesting reading the comments and finding out which of these disasters you feared. Many of you felt earthquakes were the most devastating natural disaster, and that war was the worst manmade disaster. Several revealed their fears over gas explosions, plagues, and tsunamis as well as their anger over oil spills that hurt the environment. Of course, this all depends on your personal thoughts and experiences. 

 So I'm curious...

    Don't take this the wrong way, but zombie Chrys is scary. In the mornings, I feel like zombies have invaded the London Tube. People without their coffee makes it interesting.

    My fave zombie movie is WWZ with Brad Pitt. It was surprisingly suspenseful and well done. I was convinced it would be a dumb zombie moive, but it turned out to be much better than expected! Thanks for posting all these crazy disasters:)

    Have to admit that I'm not a zombie fan ;-) although recently read Vanessa Knipe's Pill Wars in which a 'miracle' anti-depressant has a zombie-like effect - recommended. Fear tsunamis mostly although an asteroid would cause everything short of war... but maybe that as well is very likely.

    In general I'm not very interested in zombies, but I really enjoyed the movie Braindead (by Peter Jackson) that I happened to watch some years ago. Except from that, I very little zombie experience >:)

    Another zombie post - I need to go through and count them :) Zombies are clearly awesome! I do not think the dead are ever coming back, but if they do, I'm pretty sure I'm toast. I love the Resident Evil movies too, but my fav is Warm Bodies - so much fun and so sweet.
    I think the worst disaster would have to be an extinction even - the planet would be uninhabitable for a while and it would likely be global.

    I don't like the look of Zombie Chrys, no, no. . .As for the worst disaster, I'd vote for Nuclear Meltdown, or Nuclear Bomb actually being activated, as it takes a lo-oo-ong time to become radiation free. But just FYI, Morgan Freeman narrates on the show Through the Wormhole . . .and one of their shows was about the possibility of a Zombie disaster. If a virus was developed to do this, it just might be possible. It was creepy as it was on a science show looking at the scientific probability. I lean toward science a lot.

    Zombie Chrys is classic LOL. I never liked zombie stories until I became obsessed with The Walking Dead.

    I have to confess that I hate zombies - I'm actually terrified that one day this might happen! I have nightmares about it sometimes, and in my dream I always get surrounded by zombies, with nowhere to run to! Literally my worst nightmare lol.     I am not into zombies at all. It is overkill:)-That word seems appropriate for this eh? I don't think it will ever happen and I would like to see the future once where it is wonderful and not mutants post war-dark and dreary-ughh Give me Star Trek hope any day. I think war is the worst. It is destructive, killing and all for power. This is man made and it is the worst

    zombies TERRIFY me, the concept, the idea everything! I never read a zombie story or saw a zombie movie, and remember a couple of years ago people were eating each others' faces because of bath salts or something? It was in the news, flipped me out!

    Amazing make up job. Gave me a bit of a fright.

    Extinction would be the worst because you are gone but since that is usually not an instantaneous event I would pick nuclear meltdown. I grew up near one that everyone always talked about how there was no way to evacuate and we would all die so I'm pretty sure that has colored my view on that being a certain scary death. I love Ray Bradbury's story "There Will Come Soft Rains" about the aftermath of a nuclear event.

    Personally, I would say volcano or tornadoes, because I have a childhood fear of both (and, ironically, we have neither in Hungary). :) But that's just based on my perception.

    Sorry I've been a little behind in visiting you, Chrys. You've been one of my faves and one of my biggest cheerleaders this month. I gave you a special shout out in my X post. :)

    My favorite disaster is going to be a toughie. I'm a huge zombie fan (think Walking Dead, World War Z), but nuclear meltdowns seem pretty painful and bizarre. Gosh, then there's war...

    My little brother loves zombies, and has even written a movie script about zombies. Some friends of his with their own little production operation filmed it.

    Oh my, picking ONE disaster only? And a Zombie Apocalypse. Well, I think they covered a lot of that in the WWZ movie, but the book was SO much better and not at all like the movie.     This is the second time today that I've run into zombies, and I think that's awesome. The Walking Dead is okay, but I think Zombieland is my favorite zombie feature ever. As for the worst disaster...I'm going with wars.

    I love Zombieland and the book World War Z, but NOT the movie (ugh!). I think solar flares are the scariest because it is a likely disaster and it could take out just the power grid and that alone would create an apocalypse.     My scariest disaster would be a sinkhole! Like you could go missing and your next door neighbour wouldn't realize it for days. No chance for search and rescue to save you.
    I don't believe the world would in a zombiee apocalypse though.

    Hmmm...well I don't think there will be a zombie apocalypse. As far as the disasters go, they're all pretty scary situations. I imagine all the ones that are spur of the moment are a tad worse than the ones you can prepare for. The scariest thing will probably be WWIII.

    You make a truly disturbing zombie, Chris. And by "disturbing" I mean terrifying.
    I'm not a huge zombie fan, but I love The Walking Dead--it scares me silly regularly. And I love when we have a zombie walk in Vancouver and a whole whack of people slap on their zombie gear and roam the city.

    Great way to end the challenge, Chris. I've loved reading your posts and I look forward to reading more from you now that April is in the rear view mirror.

    Every disaster listed is frightening, I admit, because they each cause pain and devastation. :( But Judgement Day, as in the *real* one, where God categorizes you according to your works while on earth, that day will be glorious.

    Btw, I love your zombie pic. I also love how well thought out your posts are, especially with your links of previous posts. Great job!

    I also don't believe in the zombie apocalypse. It's laughable. ;)

    Zombie apocalypse movies and books scare the heck out of me, although I never worry about it become a reality. I do remember the Miami "zombie attack" from a few years ago, which was quite scary, although the news mentioned mental illness and drugs.

    Yay, congrats on making it to Z! I'm definitely not a zombie fan, although I did like Warm Bodies! Funny show. And as for the most feared disaster...I think war is pretty scary! We just watched Valkyrie last night and yeep. Good movie, scary war.

    YIKES!!! You make a SCARY zombie! But in a GOOD way....

    Because I cannot swim, any disaster to do with water terrifies me. However, I'm not sure that flood/ice storm/hailstorm qualifies as the worst...
    So I vote Killings and War as the worst.

    For some unknown reason, when I think of zombies, I think of the Michael Jackson video, "Thriller." Vincent Price narrates, and it's scary - much like the photo of you in zombie-mode. Ooh.

    It's hard to choose from all those disasters, but I guess I'll go with nuclear meltdown. It just takes the area a long, long time to recover from it. I don't even know how long. Congrats on finishing.

    I'm not normally a zombie person, but I like Mira Grant's novel Deadline, which provides a great twist on the usual theme with a focus on news reporting in a post-Zombie apocalypse world. I also loved the movie Warm Bodies.

    This is going to sound weird, but I need to go with never-ending drought, because of the despair and suffering everyone would experience. In a lot of the other ones, you'd get wiped out pretty quickly and never see the bad results.

    I am not big into zombies, but I have seen a lot of movies with them in them. :)

    I think nuclear meltdown might be the scariest disaster for me- but it is hard to say as there are so many scary ones on the list!

    No point in thinking about it, a zombie apocalypse is the worst disaster ever. Hands down. There's no need for discussion. Just think about it, the dead still walking around, making them undead. And they crave human flesh too (I'm shuddering right now).
