My theme for my 2015 A to Z Challenge came from my Disaster
Crimes series. Disasters are a theme in each story, so it got me thinking about
all the disasters that occur from natural disasters to manmade disasters.
Today’s
disaster is...
JUDGMENT
DAY
Are there any Terminator fans out there? Because today’s
disaster is JUDGMENT DAY, a
fictional nuclear strike featured in the Terminator series. Skynet, an
artificial intelligence, initiates a nuclear war on Judgment Day and creates
machines to wipeout humanity.
Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor, the one who will
lead humans in the fight against the machines, is one of my all-time favorite
female characters. She is badass, and when I was a kid, I wanted to be her
–especially with that shotgun! Sarah Connor was played by Linda Hamilton.
FACT: Hamilton's twin sister, Leslie Hamilton
Gearren, also portrayed Sarah Connor when it was required that there be two of
the character in the same shot.
At the end of the second
movie, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Sarah and John believe they stopped Skynet,
but as we know...Judgment Day could never be stopped.
A popular saying from the
movies: “The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves."
QUESTIONS: Are you a fan of the Terminator movies? Who is your favorite
badass female character?
I'm a member of Tremp's Troops! |
I'm not a fan of Terminator. My favorite female badass character is probably Beatrice Dalle in the Betty Blue movie
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
I've never seen Betty Blue.
DeleteIt's a French movie, really cool. The full title of the movie is "Betty Blue, 37.2 in the Morning"
DeleteCold As Heaven
Hmm. I'll have to look into that. Thanks!
DeleteI have to admit that I like Terminator Salvation with Christian Bale better. Don't hate me! I've seen the others. I do love a good sci-fi movie with artificial intelligence/machines bent on wiping out the world or world dominance. Happy Birthday early!!
ReplyDeleteI don't hate you at all. I agree with you! I love Christian Bale and I think he made a great John Connor.
DeleteThanks, Jennifer. :)
Not a big fan of Terminator. Happy Birthday Chrys!
ReplyDeleteThat's okay. :) Thank you, Rachna!
DeleteI am not a fan of the Terminator, but I do wish you a Happy Birthday, which is a bit more happier than Judgement Day.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
Yvonne.
Thank you, Yvonne! :)
DeleteHappy early birthday!! I've actually never seen any of the Terminator movies.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah! I liked the third and last Terminator movies the best, but Terminator 2 is a classic.
DeleteYAY FOR APRIL BIRTHDAYS!! I hope yours is an awesome one, Chrys! I've greatly enjoyed getting to know you through this challenge, hope it continues well past. =)
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Anne! I definitely plan to keep on getting to know you after the Challenge. Is your birthday in April too? :)
DeleteTerminator 2 was the best indeed, one of the only times a sequel surpassed the original. Hopefully skynet never comes due in my lifetime
ReplyDeleteTerminator 2 was a lot better than the first. I really don't like watching that one. Skynet...with how advanced our technology is nowadays...you never know. ;)
DeleteChrys you had me at Judgement. I love the Terminator movie although I think the first two were the best. I thought the adult John Connor in the 3rd movie was a little too wimpy. But Claire Danes wasn't too bad as John Connor's future wife. And have you seen the trailer for the latest Terminator 5 Genesis movie installment? Hope you have a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe adult Connor in the third movie is VERY wimpy but I loved the female terminator. No, I haven't seen the trailer for Terminator 5 Genesis. I didn't even know there was a Terminator 5 coming out!
DeleteThank you! :)
I really enjoyed the first Terminator movie, but have to say, not really fond of the others. My favourite female badass is Ripley from Alien - she is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteTasha

P.S. Happy birthday for tomorrow :)
Ripley!!!! Yes! I especially loved her in the second movie.
DeleteThank you! :)
Happy Birthday for tomorrow. I am a fan of Terminator and Sarah Connor. I really liked her character. We make jokes about Skynet all the time at our house.
ReplyDeleteSarah Connor is a great character. Did you ever watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles? It was a show...now long canceled.
DeleteWe loved the Terminator movies and we're anxiously awaiting the new one. Angelina Jolie was pretty bad in several flicks, but especially Tomb Raider.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, to you
Happy birthday, to you
Happy birthday dear Chrys!
Happy birthday to yoooooooooooooooou!
(PS: The machines have become self aware)
I didn't even know a new one was coming.
DeleteI like Angelina Jolie. And many of her movies. I thought he did good as Lara Croft.
Thank you for the song. :D
P.S. Oh no!
Happy birthday then!
ReplyDeleteBig fan of the series. Except the fourth one. Might go see the fifth one, as it does look really good.
Thanks, Alex!
DeleteI really liked the fourth one. I haven't even see a trailer for the fifth one. :\
I must admit when I saw Judgement Day I immediately thought of Armageddon - that'll be the indoctrinated Catholic upbringing LOL!
ReplyDeleteWill have to think about the female badass. I like it when a character is good and then temporarily goes off the rails - Buffy; Phoebe in Charmed :) xx
Haha! I figured a lot of people would think the same thing. :P
DeletePhoebe! She was my favorite character, followed closely by Piper, in Charmed. :)
Terminator is my all time favorite movie. T2 is a VERY close second. And judgement day...scariest thing ever. I fear the rise of the machines.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the 2015 A to Z Challenge!

I fear the rise of the machines too.
DeleteFirst, Happy Birthday tomorrow!!! I really liked the first Terminator movie. Liked the second one as well, but after that they kind of died for me. I've been wanting to watch the first one again for almost a year now and am sad they don't offer it on Netflix. But I haven't tried Amazon streaming yet, so maybe they have it. Great post, especially that tidbit of trivia I didn't know about Linda Hamilton's twin sister! How did I miss that? I really liked LH in Beauty and the Beast also... Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lisa! :D
DeleteJohn Connor was done very well in the third, but I loved the female terminator.
Linda did a great job in Beauty and the Beast.
Terminator sure is my favorite but I really didn't like the 4th part. I really like your theme. Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Inderpreet!
DeleteThe Terminator was wild. Linda Hamilton was great. I also liked Angelina Jolie in 'The Tourist'... wicked fun!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy that birthday!! Hope there's cake.
The Tourist is about the only Angelina Jolie movie I haven't seen yet.
DeleteThank you! There will be cake because I bought it. :P
I remember the first movie but I didn't see the sequel. I'm not a huge sci fi fan. My favorite badass female character is Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
ReplyDeleteI see it's your birthday tomorrow! Have a great one, Chrys :)
The sequel was the best in my opinion.
DeleteLisbeth Salander is awesome! I love her!
Thank you, Lisa! :D
Happy tomorrow birthday:) She is a strong female character who had to learn quick or die from this metallic beast that looks a bit like an old boyfriend-I did the same thing to him as Sarah did to cyborg....no I didn't but I dreamt about it:)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Birgit! LOL! Funny. ;)
DeleteHi Chrys - nope .. I didn't see the Terminator movies ... but I sure hope you can avoid Disaster Crimes tomorrow and just relax and have a wonderful birthday - clever to chose a Sunday for it!! Very happy birthday and a really successful time ahead .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilary! I won't do any editing or writing tomorrow so to avoid Disaster Crimes. ;)
DeleteI'm not a big Terminator fan, but I haven't seen more than one, so maybe I should give another one a shot. Have a great day tomorrow! Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteThe second one is classic and I liked the newest one (#4 with Christian Bale), but some die hard fans didn't like that one at all.
DeleteThank you, C Lee! :)
I was never that worried about Judgment Day coming. All we have to do is turn the robots off and then turn them back on again and they should be fine.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Good point, J E! :P
DeleteHappy birthday, and how convenient that you get the day off from A-Z to celebrate! I love, love, love the terminator movies. Judgement Day is also a theme in the Left Behind series, but it's the actual Christian judgement where all the good people go to heaven and the bad ones (or atheists, etc.) are left behind. I am fascinated by the idea of Judgement Day in all forms.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Shell! I'm happy about my birthday being on a Sunday this year too. Judgment Day is an interesting concept.
DeleteI'm not a fan of action/adventure movies, but I have to admit the first Terminator was really well done, character development wise.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteHappy almost birthday!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Terminator movies. That crazy melting, liquid metal terminator man was done so well.
Thank you, Mary! :)
DeleteThat dude was awesome! LOL!
When I was a freshman in high school, every time we had free time in band, someone put on Terminator (the first one). The seniors in the class loved it. When they graduated... Well, I won't tell you what my class prefered when we were in charge of the VCR. (It wasn't my choice.)
ReplyDeleteLOL! Well now I want to know what your class chose to watch.
DeleteHappy early birthday! I hope you have a grand day. I did not know that about Linda Hamilton being a twin. I liked the first two Terminator movies, cannot believe how many years ago they were made.
ReplyDeleteBetty
Thank you, Betty! I didn't know she was a twin either until I read that in my research of the movie for this post.
DeleteI'm looking forward to the new Terminator Genisys coming out over Fourth of July!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about this movie until everyone started commenting about it. lol I can't wait to see it too. :)
DeleteHappy birthday!
ReplyDeleteShe has to my favourite too. She was the first woman that I can think of who proved women with muscles could be sexy.
I love both the Terminator movies. I'm going to pretend they never made a third.
Thank you, J.H.!
DeleteExactly! I wish I had her arms in that movie.
wishing you a joyous Birthday! Enjoy! Linda Hamilton was terrific!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Donna! :D
DeleteROFL!!! The theme song that popped into my head when I saw the metal skull was the one to LOTR! Don't ask me... x)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you tomorrow! Yay that you have a break, too! <3
My favorite female character.... I like strong female characters. NOT like Scarlette O'Hara (She is a brat, sorry), I don't like overbearing female characters who are sassy and disrespectful to men (oooh, that just gets me mad). In my opinion, what makes a strong female character is one who shows humility and compassion, yet powerful and virtuous! The one who comes to mind is Triss from Divergent. :)

The LOTR song? Haha! That's funny.
DeleteThank you so much, Elizabeth! :D
I've never read the Divergent books or seen the movies, but I plan to do both.
Great J day! Hehehe! I like the first Terminator movie and each one after less and less. I do like the story itself much more, though.
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic birthday! :)
Thank you, Christine! :)
DeleteI'm no fan of these movies but I'm aware of how famous it is. And guy friends just keep watching 'em.
ReplyDeleteHappiest birthday to you. :)
Thank you, Lux! :)
DeleteYes, I could watch the Terminator movies over and over.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite girl.
I could too, but there's always one part in the second I skip. (The dream Sarah has of the nuclear blast.)
DeleteI loved the first two Terminator movies. The third one was OK. The fourth one, I thought, was terrible.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people say they thought the fourth was terrible. I liked that one.
DeleteI saw the first Terminator a long time ago, but I admit, I haven't seen them since!
ReplyDeleteThe second one is epic.
DeleteI do love the Terminator movies, though it's been a while since I've seen them. I also liked the Sarah Conner chronicles. Loved Summer Glau in it, but liked her in Firefly too. Great topic for today.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back.
I loved the Sarah Connor Chronicles and Summer Glau. I wish it hadn't been canceled.
DeleteI'm a fan of terminator, but an even bigger fan of the Sarah Connor character. It was great to see an everyday girl learn to kick some serious ass. It looks like the sequel is even more of Sarah being a bad ass, but the trailer makes it look like he started training her as a young teen. Not quite as cool for me.
ReplyDeleteYou can find me here:
ClarabelleRant
Yeah. In the next movie, she is a teen but apparently only because everything has changed.
DeleteJ here, stopping by from the #atozchallenge 2015!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I'm following you on your listed social media sites.
@JLenniDorner
Happy Birthday!
I'm a huge fan of the Terminator movies. Michelle Rodriguezis my favorite badass female actress. Letty, Rain, Ana, Nicki -- she rocked all those fiction roles!
Thank you, J, Lenni!
DeleteMichelle is awesome! I love all of her movies.
I've never see T2! I always meant to, but it kinda passed me by. I did love T1, though, and I've always liked Sarah Connor. I first saw Linda Hamilton in Beauty & the Beast, so when she toughened up for Sarah Connor in T2, it was a bit of a shock :)

T2 is epic. You need to see it!
DeleteFirst off: Happy Birthday!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSecond: I do like the movies, and I am one of those people that also liked the TV show. I think Lena Headey was a great Sarah Connor... Did you know what the idea what man-made objects will revolt against humanity exists in South American mythologies?... :)

Thank you!!!! :)
DeleteI liked the Sarah Connor Chronicles too! I wish it was still on.
I did not know that. Interesting!
I haven't seen those movies in years! I thought I was so cool watching Terminator 1 and 2 when I was a kid. Obviously, very quotable as well.
ReplyDeleteThe quotes from those movies are awesome! :D
DeleteI need to re watch these movies again. I only saw bits and pieces of it when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteSean at His and Her Hobbies
You should! Especially the first two.
DeleteHappy Birthday! I love the terminator movies. The motorcycle chase scene, in the dry wash, from Terminator II was filmed right up the street from me. It was fun driving by that daily.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenn!
DeleteReally? That's neat!
Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteI've seen the first hour or so of Terminator II several times, but since I was so young, I had to go to bed early, before the movie was over. I think I also might've seen some more recent remake, from when my ex had hijacked my Netflix queue.
Thank you, Carrie-Anne!
DeleteYou should check them out, see what you think of them.
Happy birthday for yesterday. It's mine today :-)
ReplyDeleteNever seen Terminator - just never got round to it.

Thank you! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!!!!
DeleteThese are good movies (at least the first two?). I was working at a theater when the second came out. My favorite female character? Hmmm. I've been going through TV series on Netflix and really liked Kate from the show Lost. She literally kicked butt.
ReplyDeleteI never watched Lost... Darn!
DeleteNever watched Lost? Oh shame. :)
DeleteLOL! I know, I know. I actually watched the first few episodes, but lost interest. Then I tried to tune in after a while and was totally lost. (Did you catch all of my uses of "lost?" Clever, huh?) :P
DeleteI was following you, then you lost me.
DeleteHAHAHA!
DeleteWatched terminator as a kid, enjoyed it to no end. Then watched the more recent ones too. I never really understood it had anything to do with judgement day. Maybe I just focused too much on the action. Lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, initial thought this was an endtime post and was thinking how befitting, though wondering how it would be written.
Nice post
Judgment Day was the day the nukes would fall.
DeleteA lot of people thought this post was going to be something different. I'm sneaky. ;)
Can't think of a tougher (and sexier) gal than Sara Connor! Though Kate from "Lost" was impressive.
ReplyDeleteYou're the second person to mention Kate. :)
DeleteLove that movie! Definitely a fan. And happy late birthday! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Quanie!
DeleteDon't watch any Terminator movies, but we did use the FURMINATOR for our cat and dog!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like to watch anything with guns and knives. I am, however, a big fan of James Bond books (thus Ian Fleming, who was a big bird-water) and movies. Maybe you can do an A to Z on James Bond!!???!
I don't know much about James Bond. I'm not doing an A to Z on the Terminator though...my theme is disasters. :)
DeleteHappy belated birthday! You actually share a birthday with my husband. Small world. Elle @ Erratic Project Junkie
ReplyDeleteThank you! Oh and happy belated birthday to your husband. :)
DeleteTerminator and T2 are two of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time- both so well done, well-written, well-directed and well-acted. Not to mention the computer animation from the second revolutionizing the field! Great, great movies. The third one? Not so much. The fourth? Certainly better, but still paled in comparison to the first two.
ReplyDeleteThe first two are the classics.
DeleteI love the Terminator movies! These, along with the Matrix, really creep me out. The thought of our technology becoming self aware is all to realistic to me.
ReplyDeleteKatie @TheCyborgMom
Oh, yes, Matrix is really good too.
Delete
