I have a special reader
interview for today. :) I've known Kerri Lynn for MANY years, and since she's
the the most-read out of all my friends (outside the blogosphere), I knew I had
to ask her to participate in this new feature. If you enjoy reading YA books,
and write them, you'll gain a lot from her answers.
1. Who is your favorite author and why?
J.K Rowling is my favorite author. I started reading Harry Potter in 6th grade. I thank her
and the series for getting me into reading. I'm sure I would have picked up a few
books here and there when I got a little older but nothing like I am now. It
opened me up to other authors and series that are like hers.

2. What book can you read over and over again?
I can read the 50
Shades of Grey series over and over again. I love the idea of getting swept
off your feet and brought into a very different world that you are not used to
or don't even know exists. I feel like sometimes you have to be put into those
situations to find out who you are.
3. Do you judge a book by its cover?
I actually don't judge a book by its cover. I read up a
lot of books, and what I would be interested in. I do have to say if I am in Barnes
& Noble and see a book with a vibrant and colorful artwork on it, I will
pick it up and look at it. For example, the Shatter
Me series (by Tahereh Mafi) got my attention and I didn't even know what it was
about.

4. Who is your favorite fictional character?
I am really attracted to a strong female lead. Tris in
the Divergent series (by Veronica Roth) is a
great example. She gives up her life for the greater good of her family,
friends, and even neighbors. She doesn't think twice of whether it should be
done or not, she is brave and I admire that.
5. Which author do you have a love/hate
relationship with?
I have to say the Maze
Runner series (by James Dashner). I absolutely loved the books but there
were some points where I just couldn't quite understand it. Who was bad, who
was good? Ugh so frustrating when you don't know what's going on.

6. Growing up, what was your favorite
children’s book?
The only children's books I remember reading were the Berenstain Bears.
7. Currently, what is your favorite book or
series?
I am reading the Vampire
Academy series (by Richelle Mead).
8. What would you like to know about the authors
you enjoy reading the most?
How they are inspired by to write what they write. For
example Gone Girl (by Gillian Flynn) was
such a twisted book/movie that it makes me wonder how they create these stories that they write.
Hyper Round:
1. Ebooks or Print books? Print books forever and ever.
2. Movie Adaptations: Yay or Nay? Yes, always curious.
3. Favorite reading spot? Snuggled up in bed.
4. Favorite reading snack? Wine

in Florida with her husband and their golden retriever, Dolce.
QUESTIONS: What do you think of the Shatter Me cover?
Does anyone else have a love/hate relationship with the Maze Runner series?
VOTE: How many Harry Potter fans are here? What about 50
Shades of Grey fans?
Let's see which series
wins!
Gotta love Harry Potter! Sorry, but I have zero interest in reading 50 Shades of Grey. I actually haven't read any of the other books mentioned, but I do want to read Gone Girl since I saw the movie. I know, I know, should have read the book first...
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, Sarah! Some people love 50 Shades and some people hate it. Gone Girl was a very interesting book.
DeletePrint books forever and ever! YES!! :)
ReplyDelete:D Although I've only published ebooks, I also love print books more.
Deletei like books period. ebooks are great too. i might begin to prefer them. anyway, good interview. I hope your book goes well.
ReplyDeleteEbooks are great too! They are very convenient.
DeleteHarry Potter gets my vote, blah to the other one lol Print books take up way more room though, but are better to read I find.
ReplyDeleteBlah to the other one. HAHA! :P Print books are easier to read.
DeleteI only read YA when my daughter begs me to. Harry Potter is okay and never read 50 Shades. I do think there are lots of great books for young people and anything that makes them fall in love with books is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. And with how popular YA books are nowadays, reading them is the cool thing to do. ;)
DeleteI am a Harry Potter fan (my house is Hufflepuff). All the fervor over 50 Shades of Gray has made me curious but I have no real interest in reading the series, although my sister loves it. Now Gone Girl, I'm very interested in reading and have already added it to my TBR list. But when it comes to books, I'm old school. Even thought I've self-published an ebook (I plan to do a print version as well), I'm all about the print. There's just something about the weight of a book in your hands. The smell of it. How each turn of the page brings you deeper and deeper into its world. It's as if the book and all of my senses are connecting on a deeper level. I get the advantages of ebooks but like I said, I'm all about the print.
ReplyDeleteI read the 50 Shades books because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I have to say...I personally think the hype is overrated. I didn't like them that much. There are some things about them that make them mediocre. But, at the same time, some things that I liked...like some of the suspenseful stuff. Gone Girl is interesting for sure, but out of all of Gillian Flynn's books I prefer Sharp Objects. Reading a print book is more pleasurable.
DeleteChrys, this was a fun interview - great questions and format.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kerri Lynn, too!
(That cover for Shatter Me would make me read the book.)
Thanks, Cherdo!
DeleteIsn't the cover great? I hadn't seen it before I compiled this interview, but I'm interested in it now.
She is well read!! Have to say, haven't read any Harry Potter and haven't read 50 Shades of Grey either. We rented the Maze Runner, wasn't impressed with the movie, didn't realize it was a book series; my husband thought it was part of a video game, LOL :)
ReplyDeleteI read Gone Girl and then hubby and me saw the movie; it totally caught him by surprise with the "twist" in it.
betty
She is well read. :) She reads a lot more than YA, and she posts the neatest pictures (like the ones in the interview) on Facebook. They always make me jealous. ;)
DeleteHaven't read Harry Potter or Forty Shades of Grey, but I have read All three of Alex's.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you haven't at least read a Harry Potter book. Both of these, though very different, are about the most popular series ever. lol
DeleteI love Harry Potter, too. And I agree about the Maze Runner. I enjoyed the books, but the character switch ups were confusing. Loved hearing from the readers POV!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed this, Gwen!
DeleteI've always studiously avoided the Harry Potter franchise, since i steer well clear of obscenely overhyped books, films, and music. I'm surprised the trend has lasted so long, since I never understood what all the hype was about. However, I'd much sooner read any HP book than 50 Shades of Grey, which I'm very disturbed at the populariy of. I recently some great blogs breaking down, in great detail, all the instances of abuse and misrepresentation of BDSM. I can't find a blatantly abusive, controlling relationship romantic.
ReplyDeleteI usually steer clear of books/movies that have big hype surrounding them. I just don't get into the trends, but I adore the Harry Potter. And since I love The Hunger Games movies, I want to read the books.
DeleteYes, 50 Shades definitely doesn't exhibit a healthy relationship.
HARRY POTTER :) all the way. Never read 50 Shades, so I won't judge it, but HP is my all time fav series!
ReplyDeleteI like that you won't judge 50 Shades since you haven't read it. :)
DeleteThose are all really good questions. JK Rowling is an excellent author. I too, like her Harry Potter series. The Divergent series is also good. Sorry, though, I can't agree on the 50 Shades. I barely made it through the first time reading it!
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, Sherry. There's definitely two sides when it comes to 50 Shades and not everyone likes it. I read all three. There were things I didn't like and some things I did like. The writing wasn't disastrous as some people say, but it wasn't exceptional either.
DeleteHarry Potter series, definitely. Fun interview. I see why she was drawn in with that Shatter Me cover. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter seems to be winning.
DeleteNice to meet you, Kerri! I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, but not of 50 Shades. I'm also a fan of strong female leads too.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Strong female leads are a must for me too.
DeleteHi Kerri Lynn. I love the Harry Potter series as well. I started reading it when my daughter took an interest in the books (she was 7 at the time and now she's 22). I haven't read the 50 Shades series. I must be missing out. I love real books over e-book but have to admit the ebook is convenient. Nice to meet you! Thanks for the interview Chrys.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Lisa!
DeleteNix to 50 Shades, nix to Potter, but a very big yes to paper books, snuggling in bed to read and the glass of wine. Good luck to you, Kerri Lynn.
ReplyDeleteSnuggling in bed with wine and a book sounds lovely.
DeleteI am a Potterhead and I'm always happy to see one. :D
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to introduce you to one, Lux. :D
DeleteI haven't read either one (and am actually a little ashamed to admit that I haven't read any of the Harry Potter series).
ReplyDeleteI know there are people out there, like you and my mom, who haven't read a single Harry Potter book, but it's still surprising.
DeleteShatter Me book cover is outstanding. Makes me want to climb in that book and devour it!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed Gone Girl, and had trouble putting it down. I also love to read in bed! Great interview, Chrys and Kerri Lynn!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Thanks for stopping by, Julie! :)
DeleteI enjoyed the first three books of Vampire Academy. I have Shatter Me, but haven't read it yet.
ReplyDeleteGreat reading profile. I like to see what everyone else has read or wants to read.
I'll be interested in reading your review for Shatter Me, Medeia.
DeleteDoes the fact that she started reading Harry Potter in 6th grade make anyone else feel ancient?! I just realized that while my generation of writers grew up reading Stephen King, this younger generation of writers will feel the same way about J.K. Rowling.
ReplyDeleteHAHA! The young Harry Potter generation started reading Harry Potter around 12 years old.
DeleteGreat interview, loved the questions and answers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary!
DeleteMy favourite female lead is probably Ripley from Alien :)
ReplyDeleteRipley is awesome!
