To bring balance to my blog, I am also introducing Reader
Interviews. I will select a reader I know to ask questions about books and
authors. Not only will these interviews interest readers, but I think writers
can benefit from these interviews, too.
For my first ever Reader Interview, I picked Kathy Worrell. Kathy is a moderator for my favorite Goodreads group, The Life of a Book Addict. She’s a Goodreads Librarian, had posted over 350 reviews, and has completed three reading
challenges.
Welcome, Kathy! Let's get started.
1. Who is your favorite author and why?
I can't really say that I have just one favorite author.
I'm attached to authors who create characters with a huge sense of humor. I
just love funny novels.
2. What book can you read over and over again?
Something Wicked this Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.
3. Do you judge a book by its cover?
No. I would like to think that I judge a book by its
content, more so than the color of a book. I see book club members who base
their book reading list on the color of the cover. I could never understand
that.
4. Who is your favorite fictional character?
I love Charley Davidson and Reyes Farrow! She's a
sarcastic, witty, part-time investigator and full-time grim reaper. And
Reyes......he's just HOT!
5. Which author do you have a love/hate relationship
with?
Definitely Murakami Haruki.
(Love)
He has such a beautiful way with the written word. I am
mesmerized by his stories and they way he sucks me in so deep; I just want to
keep reading to find out what happens.
(Hate)
I don't like when his characters have too many sexual
deviant tendencies. I really wonder about his own upbringing.
6. Growing up, what was your favorite children’s book?
Alice in Wonderland. As I child I just wanted to find
that rabbit hole.
7. Currently, what is your favorite book or series?
The Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones.
8. What would you like to know about the authors you
enjoy reading the most?
Where does their inspiration come from?
Hyper Round:
1. E-books or print?
E-books.
I have to say that I was not one to give up my hardcovers
so easily. However, the portability and lower prices of e-books has really
influenced my book buying purchases.
2. Movie Adaption: Yay or Nay?
Nay.
I always seem to want to read the novels that I find are
being made into movies. But, when the time comes to watch the movie, I am
usually not too interested in seeing it; especially if the book was really
good. In my opinion, the movie is rarely as good as the book.
3. Favorite Reading Spot?
On the couch, in the living room, by the fireplace. You
will find me here every night of the week.
4. Favorite Snack?
Most definitely popcorn. I'm a creature of habit; it is always
popcorn.

About Kathy:
I currently live with my husband and one of our sons in
Timberon, NM; a small town of 300 people. Timberon is in a very rural area
located in the Sacramento Mountains 7,200 feet above sea level. We live 75
minutes from Wal-Mart, shopping, and a Hastings book store! My oldest son is currently attending, NMSU. He will be graduating
this year with a criminal justice degree.
Find her on Goodreads!
Thanks for a great interview with Kathy, most interesting to read on this wet and windy Friday morning in the UK.
ReplyDeleteHave started a new blog as someone ruined my last so collecting followers again.
Yvonne.
I'm glad you enjoyed Kathy's interview, Yvonne! I'll be popping over to your new blog to follow it soon. :)
DeleteGreat questions - the interview was over before I was ready!! I wanted more.
ReplyDeleteKathy being a popcorn fan moves her into high position! What a comfy spot too; I'd never leave. I agree with her on author: Murakami Haruki... and movie adaptations :/
Thanks, Chrys!
Popcorn is yummy! I don't make it for a reading snack though. I should! Thanks for stopping by, Dixie!
DeleteReader interviews. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love funny novels, too. And I'm definitely going to check out the Charley Davidson series.
Thanks! I'm thrilled you like my idea. :)
DeleteThis a great feature for your blog! Enjoyed reading Kathy's interview and admire her for where she lives! Not sure I could live that far out from "civilization".
ReplyDeletebetty
Thanks for your comment, Betty! I'm happy you approve of this new feature for my blog. :)
DeleteInteresting concept, interview a reader. Will be nice to read as this series progresses what others find as interesting reads.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeffrey! There will be one reader interview a month, just as there will be one blogger interview a month. :)
DeleteFunny books sure are ones to read. And yeah the movie is almost never as good as the book. Great interview
ReplyDeleteBooks have far more details and information that they just can't pack into a movie.
DeleteNice living room, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteSorry, the covers are often make or break for me.
Covers normally attract me, too. If I like it, I'll pick it up. If I don't, I'll pass it by.
DeleteNice to meet Kathy. I like these Reader Interview idea :) I too like to know where the inspiration comes from.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachna! I figured readers would enjoy the thought of being interviewed, and that authors could benefit from what they say. :)
DeleteWhat a different sort of interview. I'm anxious to read more reader interviews. BTW, love Kathy's decor!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lilly! There will be one reader interview a month. :)
DeleteOh my Chrys, thank you so much for having Kathy tell about herself. She is the most important element -- a reader. I found most interesting that she isn't always drawn to a book because of the cover. And since I write books with humor, I love that she likes to read humor. Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Vicki! Some readers are drawn to covers, others are drawn more by titles, and more are attracted by the blurbs alone. That's why I think all three should stand out. :)
DeleteYou're welcome, Vicki! I'm glad you enjoyed this.
Great interview! I don't think I really judge a book by its cover, but it is a selling point. If a book has a good cover, it's likely to draw my attention and prompt me to read more about it. If it has a bad cover or one that just isn't within my area of interest, I likely won't even investigate what it's about.
ReplyDeleteThen doesn't that mean you're judging the book by its cover? :P
DeleteWhat a fun interview, ladies. I loved it! Great idea, Chrys!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ava! :D
DeleteBeing a writer, I tend to read a book the way an editor would. I love hearing from readers to find out what catches their interest. This feature is a great idea. It was wonderful meeting you, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteI tend to do the same thing, too. Although I try my hardest not to. I'm glad everyone so far thinks this idea is great. :)
DeleteWhat a unique and refreshing interview concept! Lots of bloggers interview writers, but I think this is the first reader interview I've ever seen. Nice job, ladies!
ReplyDeleteI usually get annoyed with movie adaptations, but I watch them, anyway, if it's a book I especially enjoyed. That's because my hubby doesn't read for pleasure, (unless it's something I wrote) so if I want to share a book I reeeeally like with him, seeing the movie together is the way to do it.
Thank you so much, Susan! I've been interviewing fellow authors and recently started interviewing bloggers as well, but I wanted to do something more for readers. :)
DeleteWhat a great new idea, Chrys! I'm interested in hearing what readers want to read, and what excites them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jana! I'm interested in knowing that too. :)
DeleteGreat interview. Personally I do judge a book by its cover. But then I read the short synopsis on the back, read the first couple of pages and spoil myself by reading how it ends. And I also think that most times a movie adaptation is not as good as the book. If I know that a movie is based on a book, I hesitate to watch it because I rather read the book first. Or I'm not sure how I'd enjoy watching the show when I already read and liked the book. Had the same issue about the movie version of The Giver but lucked out and was glad I watched it.
ReplyDeleteI always look at the cover first, then the title, the blurb, and follow it with the first page. But read the end? Oh no!
DeleteI haven't read the Hunger Games books yet, but because I love the movies so much I want to now. But I understand what you mean. Most books I like, I end up not liking the movies.
Reading the end is a bad habit of mine but I don't mind being spoiled. Because for me, it's not the destination that's important. It's the journey. And I just love reading and finding out how'd a book begin and end the way it did.
DeleteSometimes when I'm reading an exciting part, I skip a few pages ahead to take a peek at the outcome. What I find there normally makes me gasp, so I jump back to where I was to read as fast as I can to get to the end of the event. :)
DeleteI want to meet Kathy and read beside her on that couch. I like movie adaptations that really pull me in. It's when they turn me off that I get annoyed. Books are always King and Queen though.
ReplyDeleteSo do I! :D
DeleteAwesome interview! It was great getting details from a reader's perspective. Thanks for sharing! I love that Kathy loves to read so much. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! The reader's perspective is the most important one. :)
DeleteI enjoyed the interview and think you've latched on to an excellent idea, Chrys - looking forward to "meeting" more readers. And Kathy, I also enjoy Ray Bradbury. His sly wit and creative worlds are unparalleled.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashantay! Meeting readers is the best! :)
DeleteWhat a lovely picture, Kathy. Perfect for cozying up with a good book!
ReplyDeleteI loved your answers. I am always torn between ebooks and paperbacks. Ebooks are really convenient nowadays, especially when traveling. But I do like to hold a good paperback while lying down before bed. I try not to stare at my Kindle before sleeping.
I wish you great success with your writing!
I am the same way when it comes to eBooks and paperbacks.
DeleteReader interviews. What a cool idea. Kathy looks so comfortable reading.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked it, Susan! And she does look comfy. I wish I had her reading spot. ;)
DeleteReader interviews are a great idea. So nice to "meet" you, Kathy, and hear from the reader's point of view. Enjoyed your answers and comments.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Beverly!
DeleteThat looks sort of like the big leather davenport my rabbi and rebbetzin have, on which I've had many a wonderful Saturday afternoon schluff (sleep). I've also done a lot of reading on that comfy davenport.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had one!
DeleteGreat interview! The corner of my couch is my favorite place to read too. :)
ReplyDeleteMine too! :)
DeleteFun to learn about Kathy! I also really like this blog feature. After reading this- I think I need to read Something Wicked This Way Comes- I have never read it. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
I'm glad you enjoyed this, Jess! :)
DeleteNice to meet you Kathy! I would love to connect of GR. I'm a huge fan of 'Something Wicked This Way Comes" Also love/hate Hurokimi. I'm getting used to ebooks myself. I love the easy access and being able to read in the middle of the night without a light. I miss not knowing how far I am in the book or being able to glance at the blurb on the back page. Thanks, Chrys for another engaging interview!
ReplyDeleteSend Kathy a friend request on Goodreads and hopefully she'll add you. She hasn't been by to check out her interview so I don't know if she'll see your comment, but I have emailed her. :)
Deletei love getting to know the authots more thru posts like this. Nice!
ReplyDeleteWell, Kathy isn't an author...she's a reader. :)
Delete*Readers. My bad. :D
DeleteThat's okay! Honest mistake. :)
DeleteGreat interview! I still can't give up my hardcover books. I tried and tried with the e-books, but they just don't work for me. To each their own...though. :)
ReplyDeleteI like eBooks for the ease of them and they are great for short stories, but I still love the feel of print books.
Deletewhat a fun interview! and popcorn is my favorite thing ever...especially white cheddar...yum. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting so hungry for popcorn now! :P
DeleteThis is a great concept, Chrys. I love the idea of reader interviews. It was fun getting to know Kathy. And the only thing that goes better together than movies and popcorn is books and popcorn.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the concept for this interview, Christy! :D
DeleteGreat interview. I love this idea. I like getting to know other readers.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked it, Mary!
DeleteLove this idea - and felt like I would have given so many of the same answers as Kathy - and where she lives sound idyllic :) x
ReplyDeleteThat's great! :D
DeleteFabulous interview! She doesn't look old enough to have a son in college. :)
ReplyDeleteNo, she doesn't. :)
DeleteOne thing we share in common? That very favorite cozy place to curl up with a book!
ReplyDelete;-}
I wish I had Kathy's favorite spot to read in my home! :)
DeleteHi Kathy and Chrys! I wrote down the Something Wicked... book. I love a sense of humor too, so I'd be all-in for a book with that.
ReplyDeleteI like popcorn too! But I am still in favor of hardcover books. I have a Kindle, but there's just something about holding a book..
Hope you both had a great weekend!
Ceil
Kathy pushed a lot of people to Something Wicked this Way Comes and that makes me so happy!
DeleteHave a beautiful Sunday, Ceil!
I love this idea, Chrys! It's so much fun to learn about what other readers enjoy and why. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fundy! :D
DeleteLove the interview here with Kathy! It was nice to meet you, Kathy! Have a great Monday, both of you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday, Keith! :)
