Sexy Snippets from 30 Seconds

30 Seconds, my newest romantic-suspense, is heavy on thrill but is equally steamy. With Hurricane Crimes, I led up to the sex scenes but cut it short, or in other words used the “behind closed doors” method. You know what my characters are doing, but I keep their deed private. With 30 Seconds, I did the opposite. I openly reveal every sizzling moment. In no way is my story erotica, but it may make your face flush. *wink*

Below I am sharing a couple of sentences from five steamy scenes involving my characters Dani and Blake:

1.    He pulled her closer, and she strained against him with desperation hot in her veins. It throbbed, pounded, and banged inside her screaming body.

2.    He traced her lips with his finger until her lips trembled with anticipation. When her mouth parted, he kissed her greedily. The inside of his mouth was hot and his kiss warmed her entire body.

3.    She kissed him with urgency. Her tongue probed his mouth, tasting and savoring his strong flavors. Then he changed the angle of the kiss and his mouth became savage, his lips bruising.

4.    She threw her arms around him and crushed her lips to his. Her hands went on a frenzy to touch hot skin as they pushed and pulled each other to the car. When Blake grabbed her and lifted her at the hips, she locked her legs around him and deepened the kiss.

5.    “Come here.” She pulled him to the fireplace and tugged him to the floor. She trailed hot, greedy kisses down his chest, whispering, “I’m going to savor every second with you.”

QUESTION: Do you like steamy romance scenes?

  1. I like reading them more than I like writing them - I really struggle to make them sound as good as yours!

    1. Over the years, I've gotten the hang of writing them. In the beginning though, they intimidated me.

  2. Hi Chrys, I am not so good with the steamy scenes or descriptions. I tried them for a short story and was kinda of okay with it. Yours are good.

  3. I am terrible at writing these scenes. You're obviously really good at it! Great snippets. :)

  4. Ooh, they're all good, in particular #4. ;)

    1. Yes, #4 is the steamiest scene of them all. ;)

  5. Great work! Steamy scenes are very hard to get right and you've done a brilliant job!

  6. I write steamy scenes, not my favorite part of writing romance, and find when I read them I'm analyzing the writing in hopes of improving my own scenes. I think the dialogue 'during' is the most difficult to make realistic.

    1. The dialogue can be tricky. That's why I think of what I'd say in that...situation. ;)

  7. I read all the books by Henry Miller in my young days, and enjoyed them. Difficult to write though (but Miller did it quite well) >:)

    2. Some cool books by Henry Miller, all of them written in the 1930s and 1940s:
      Tropic of Cancer
      Tropic of Capricorn
      Sexus

Maybe you saw the movie Henry and June, about Henry Miler and Anais Nin?

    3. I have heard of those books, but I've never read any of them. And I don'y even think I've seen the movie Henry and June. Sheesh...I'm behind. lol

  9. Not a chance I could write anything like that. The first time two characters had to kiss, I almost didn't make it...

  10. Whew...I'm fanning myself. Very nice, Chrys! I love some erotic scenes and the books I've read lately are not exactly panning out :) Is 30 seconds in paperback?

    1. I'm glad you liked these. And no, 30 Seconds is not in paperback. It's a novella, too short for paperback for my publishers. Sorry!

  11. My mind went straight to the gutter with the first one, and I had to reread it to catch what it actually said. My first thought: His what banged inside her?

  12. My NA as Ashelyn shows sex. I do have characters who have sex in my YA but I don't show that at all. I'm just not comfortable with younger readers seeing that in my books. It's implied or stated but not shown.

    1. I totally understand, Kelly. I would feel the same way if I wrote YA. With Hurricane Crimes it's also implied, so 30 Seconds is my first published work where I actually show it.

  13. Those were definitely steamy. I am ok writing and reading steamy scenes, and have and will. Although in recent stories I imply more than illustrate. Depends on the story I am writing.

    1. You're right, it does depend on the story. Some need to go deeper and some need to stay sweet. :)

  15. I think I got a lot better at writing steamy scenes after I made my much-belated sexual debut at 28. My ex wasn't the world's best, but at least I finally had personal experience over almost five years.
